Look; dirty white head and clear copper-ruby red body. Aroma; caramels and a fruit basket. Taste; raisins, fruity malts, malted candies, grassy hops, tiny winey notes - leading to a soft and fruity finish. Normal texture and soft carbonation. Survived past BB without off-tastes. Quality enough, easy. [50cl brown bottle 5.2%abv BB07-05-2015 Greetings to Bierothek in Bamberg DE, T@Ferie2015]

500ml swing-top bottle bought at Die Bierothek in Bamberg, shared with Finn. A big shot followed by smoke when opened. Clear mahogany coloured body under a diminishing beige head. Slightly roasted dark malty aroma, semi-sweet. Flavoured with grainy caramel, earth, and nuts. Rather sweet and dry malty ending. Medium bodied. Satisfying (at the balcony, Fässla, Bamberg 11.10.2014).

Fra flaske delt med Rune. Mahognyfarget. Åpnet med røyk & skudd. Høyt luftig skum. Aroma av malt. Smaken er søt karamell med innslag av malt. Smaken holder seg.

Bottle. Pours dark brown in color with a small head. Sweetish bready in aroma. Flavor is similar sweet with breadyness present, hints of roasted malts as well.

Clear dark brown color with average frothy off-white head keeping a nice lacing. Aroma is grainy and roasted malt with sweet notes. Flavor is like aroma and slightly hoppy. Medium carbonation and body with a dry sweet finish.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer aber schönen Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht röstmalzig, Karamell, minimal würzig. Geschmack angenehm röstmalzig, würzig, gering schokoladig.

A very fine offering from the ancient Göller brewery. As may be expected this is a dark beer, though not nearly as dark as Schwarzbier or stout. Strong-tasting of lightly roasted malts, a tad sweet, with good carbonation and darkish rather solid froth all make this an excellent representative of this Franconian classic. The label is the usual mixture of fonts (declaring among others that this is a ’rustic beer pleasure’), a picture of an ancient building, perhaps even the brewery, with some hops loosely draped around it, the 16th century gable stone from the old ’zur Alten Freyung’ - the original name of the beermaker, and, as a sort of afterthought, the silver medal this beer won at the European Beer Star competittion in 2008 is shoved on from the right on the label on my bottle: there’s a lot going on there, that’s for sure.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at One Pint Pub, 20130720) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was small, sparse and white. Aroma had caramell, toasted malts and grass. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, toasted malts, grass and bitterness. Afteraste had roasted malts and bitterness. A bit too burnt for a dunkel that I would prefer. Clean and flawless.
