3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Any time is a good time for a German smoked beer. Göller’s Rauchbier pours brown with a light brown/grey head. Beautiful Rauchbier smoke aromatics redolent of bacon. As good as the aroma is it doesn’t quite translate into the flavor. The taste is more bready than smokey. It’s still nice. Very smooth feel although it can seem a bit thin. It’s refreshing and that isn’t always something you can say about a Rauchbier.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
American smoked ale pretty much. Bottle. Pour was copper brown and the head was thin to near nil. Aroma of smoke and caramel. Flavor followed, lacked complexity, but it was tasty and nice. Just not a great example of the style. Moderate body. Probably more sessionable than most rauchbiers.

Dark brown rauchbier with a smoky bacon aroma, a malty caramel flavour with bacon undertone. The finish is rather light but this is a pleasant and tasty smoked beer.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This beer is an example of something that doesn’t have to be complex to be excellent. Although this doesn’t work so well with aromas as a simple aroma isn’t terribly impressive. Whereas, for flavor it’s basically more or less just malts and smoke, but with the carbonation and the subtleties of the yeast and the precise balancing of these qualities that yields mastership. Perfect finish.
