3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 edpeg (505) - Berlin, GERMANY - JAN 25, 2012
Bottle 0,5l. BB10/2012. Pours dark yellow, amber orange, cloudy with massive thick creamy head. Aromas, vanilla, banana, yeast, dough, oranges, disinfectant and little honey melon. Palate is tart, citrusy and little thin and watery. Texture is medium full, not so full-bodied as many normal Hefeweizens, but sticky and well carbonated with. There is a peculiar taste and flavour just as the aftertaste hits in. Flavours of glue or cough drop, with little warming sensation from alcohol. No bitterness much, some dryness in the finish.
After adding all the yeast crud from the bottom, colour dirty yellow obviously. Not much difference, adds a little balance. Doesn’t make it any better. The beer is quite drinkable, altough that gluey or medicinal flavour was odd, I kind of enjoyed it.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 17, 2011
UPDATED: MAY 7, 2012 Bananiger, stark karbonisierter Beginn. Brotige Alkoholnoten, rund, nun noch stärker bananig. Süffig, mit der Zeit dunkler werdend, der Alkoholstich ist nu unverkannbar und sollte besser verdeckt werden. Süß hefiges Finish. 9/10/7/8/8/8
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 hopscotch (7538) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 30, 2011
Bottle… February in Franconia (2011)… Murky caramel-colored lager with a frothy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. The aroma offers caramel and milk chocolate intermingled with light clove and cinnamon phenols and an overripe banana ester. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and dancing carbonation. Unlike the nose, the flavor is nearly clean of esters and phenols. It leans bitter, but only by a whisker. Chocolate, nuttiness and banana are presented, but they’re not overwhelming. Finishes crisp and mostly clean. Thanks go out to erlangernick and Koelschtrinker for making this month of Franconian lagers possible!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blairgus (1205) - California, USA - APR 6, 2011
14 july 2009, bottle. gold, almost orange colour and hazy and thick so you can’t see through it. smells like sweet wort and oranges. some kind of yeasty/doughy aroma i can’t place. sourdough? very nice beer! almost flat body. thick and sweet. i love it! i think part of the aroma i can’t place has to do with this being 7%abv and alcohol obscures it a bit.
