UPDATED: OCT 26, 2007 Dry molasses, roasty aroma. Overly chummy label. I’m sure someone was laughing their arse off while designing the label, but it’s just not funny. Medium dark brown and clear. Dry coffee porter. Slightly tangy and mulchy. Medium light body. Light metal, light roast soy in the finish. A bit watery. Fair enough session beer.

Bottle - my first foray into Good Bastards beers. A good dark brown colour. Just a little sweet malt on the nose, with a hint of chocolate. A dryish palate with a very grainy malt flavour. The mouthfeel is overall thin and watery. Made to be unoffensive, and meets the mark. Would be popular in Cossie Clubs I’m sure. Does what it says on the label - and there’s nothing wrong with that.

330mL bottle. Pours red/brown, thin tan head. A sweet nose, smooth smelling with roasty malt. Flavour comes mainly from roast malt, with smooth cocoa and a hint of bitterness. The let down is a very thin, watery body. Very drinkable, very mild flavour.

330ml bottle. Rich black in colour with a velvety creamy slightly tan head. Burnt toffee and chocalte aroma and feels smooth and silky in the mouth. Taste of burnt malt.

Roasted malt nose, milk chocolate and some coffee. A hint of hop in there too. Rather watery mouthfeel that doesn’t support the aroma. A bit of an off flavour of nuts... Reminds me of a simple, watery lager with burnt malt added.

Shared this one with my wife over lamb burgers at Tuatara Backpackers. There are equal touches of chocolate and crystal malt, lending a nice flavour without any complexity. But the label makes this clear: this beer is NOT about complexity and all about having a good session. Fair enough. Cheesy label though.

Black in colour, pours with big head. strong malty aroma. Sweet cappicinao tatse, needs more bitterness.

Butterscotchy, caramelly, slightly raosty nose. Sweet, mossy, hints of roastyness on the palate, dries out a touch towards the finish, a touch better than my first sample, a cross between, Newcastle Brown and tooheys Old or something, not a favourite style, easy to drink, but not overly interesting. This time, my bottle appeared to be quite old, it had avery rusty cap, it was better than the first bottle i had of it.
