This may just be me, but I think this brew is terribly underscored. As a B’ham native it has always been my favorite GPBC product. Easy to find around the local area and a decent price. However, if you like your ales on the citrus or hoppy side, this beer is probably not for you. Nonetheless, give it a try. It is certainly unique for a brown ale.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can from shrubber85 poured into an English pint glass. Muddy brown with medium Aroma is nutty, medium body, medium/low carbonation, and thick medium-bubble lacing. Taste is nutty, some chocolate, herbal hops, and slightly bitter hop finish. Wasn’t expecting such a hop presence in the taste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from can into Geordie Schooner glass, thanks Mike! Opaque reddish brown colour with tan foam, lasting with lace. Malty sweet with noticeable hoppy bitter balance, some English-style earthiness, toast, hint of raisins, plums, cherries, cacao nibs. A little thin, cidery, metallic, but not too bad. Finishes a bit too sweet for me too, but it’s pretty good nonetheless. More complex than Newcastle by far, easy-drinking, good not great.

I’m a lover of brown ales, and I’m not sure if it’s due to the fact this was a canned version of this beer, but just not a very good beer. The aroma (malty as described) is very promising, but disappointed in everything else overall. I would like to think a tapped / bottled version of this beer would be better.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Big fan of this brown. The taste and aroma have a nice roasty/sour note. It's good year round but especially in the fall.
