COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big coffee flavors dominate early only to be wiped out by an enormous about of Willamette hop flavors. One of GPBC’s most requested beers. Complex and full of flavor yet amazingly sessionable. Brewed with coffee from Primavera Coffee Roasters here in Birmingham, AL.

Pours out of a can with a nice, dark brown appearance. Khaki colored head, decent retention and decent lacing. Aromas of freshly ground coffee, cocoa and oats. Taste is rich coffee upfront with a mild bitterness. Cereal, toast, some chocolate and a nicely bitter hop finish. Good beer, will drink again.

Pours blach with a huge soapy khaki head. Leaves thick lacing. Aroma is heavy cereal grains, coffee, roasted malt, fruit. Flavor is roasted coffee, malt, bitter earthy hop, sweet malt, a little licorice, tastes like a coffee stout. Smooth medium body. Low carbonation. Creamy texture. Very good beer.

Appearance: Very dark brown, near black body with a creamyish, medium-sized, tan-hued head.

Smell: There’s a scent of dark roast coffee alongside lightly ashen roasted malt, with nominal chocolate and caramel. Lightly tangy fruitiness.

Taste: A dark crooked roasted maltiness, a hint of underlying, sustained char. Dark chocolate, a light sweetness. Sharp snap of dark fruit. Very low citrus, herb hop character and bitterness. A bit more tangy fruitiness on the drying, roasty finish.

Mouthfeel: Just a half-notch above medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Decent and acceptable, though not outstanding.

To me being from the area where this is made makes no sense at all to go crazy for something that is this mediocre [at best]. Its way too hoppy first of all and that honestly probably ruins what otherwise might make a decent beer [ not a great one]. This in my opinion, because it is local, is akin to that of government subsidized beer much like GM is to automobiles. Support it and love it even if it isnt deserving of the support because its local.

Tasting at Bruce’s. Can thanks to Colin. Opaque dark brown beer, good vibrant tan head. Palate is smooth and airy. Very nice mild carbonation. Malt starts smooth but it has a very unpleasant burned note, I don’t mean roasted, I mean properly burmed, acrid and bitter. Little coffee. Smooth finish. Pretty unpleasant.
