2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 GTAEgeek (521) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 25, 2011
On tap at the Nook. Pours black with minimal head. The aroma is citrus and barnyard must, with an undeniable roasted char smell. The flavor is mellow and light, with the roasted bitterness only breaking through in the finish. The palate is light to medium, smooth and clean. Overall, an interesting beer, but the black malts didn’t work well.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 rlaw (814) - Alabama, USA - APR 15, 2011
Hand pump draft at J. Clyde. Poured a beautiful dark brown with a dense, persistent, medium-sized tan head. Aroma was roasted malt, a lot of caramel, and some grassy, earthy, citrusy notes. Flavor followed aroma. Very little brett or farmhouse yeast character, but there was a touch of tartness. Far less fruity than I would have expected. As it warmed, a strange chemical, sort of rubbery note developed. Thin, rather watery mouthfeel. I enjoyed this, but I’m not sure how to evaluate it. It’s an interesting blend of styles, but in the end can only be judged against itself. I’d drink it again.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 illinismitty (2269) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - APR 11, 2011
ENBF. Pours dark brown with almost no head. Aroma of beglian esters and dark malts. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Flavor of roasted malts and spice with some slight lemony and funky phenols. Not super aggressive on the brett side, but that works here.
