UPDATED: JUL 18, 2010 Had this on tap at the Magic city Brewfest. Appearance: black, black, black. No light coming through this one. Creamy brown head. Smell: dark fruits - think plums, cherries, raisins. Taste: follows through on the promise from the smell. Mouthfeel: thick, viscous, but not syrupy. Drinkability: even on a hot Alabama summer day, temp and humidity in the high 90s, I wanted more! If you like big, chewy Imperial Stouts, El Gordo will put a big smile on your face.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2011 Are you kidding me!? They make this in Birmingham Alabama.....Amazing. Big black pour with a frothy brown head. Roasty sweet aroma with fruit like chocolate cherries. Licorish?. Flavor is total dessert bomb. Dark Chocolate, coconut, coffee and roast. Full but soft and rich mouthfeel. Sweet but not cloying. Yum. Im not saying u want a bunch of this but for a small treat...wow.

Draft at Magic City Brewfest. Good God almighty. I sampled this about two months ago and I remember it well. Pours black with a medium beige head. Aroma and flavor are very sweet and malty. Lots of dark fruits -- raisins and cherries. Some bitter and milk chocolate and a bit of coffee. Thick palate -- coated my mouth and blotted out the sun. Not as complex as other imperial stouts (if that’s what this really is), but an all-around awesome beer. I’d drink this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
