Cask conditioned at The Cross Keys, Knaresborough, N. Yorks. Black with tan head. Lovely smooth, bitter chocolate stout, charred malts with a smooth coffee background, superb drinking. Top Notch.

Cask at GBBF 2011. Pitch black color. Sweet aroma wtih toffee, caramel and toasted bread. Lots of toffee in the flavor with creamy vanilla. A little roastiness, which is a bit disappointing. Very worty taste.

Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 2010. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black in colour with no head. Sweet treacle toffee mixed with overipe brambles in the long nose. Thin mouthfeel and no lacing. Dark malt complex gives a maltloaf base with chewy treacle toffee, burnt black malt and syrupy dates. Strong earthy mulch flavours in the dry aftertaste. The dry theme continues with rich roast grain, mocha coffee and old leather notes in the moreish finish. My favourite from the Goose Eye portfolio. Highly recommended.

Cask at GBBF 2011, Day 2. Pours clear brown with a light head. Dark fruit and dark malts make up the aroma. Flavor is medium sweet with notes of caramel and dark, lightly roasted malts. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Faint roasted malt finish, light brown sugar. Fairly nice.

Clear dark black brown colour with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, licorice notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light light acidic with a average to long duration, dark dark chocolate malt, dark roasted, licorice notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110803]

Cask (GBBF2011, Wed)
Sweet mashy malts. Simple roast aroma. Some fruity hops. I think. Not exactly as full as was promised. In fact it’s rather simple.

Cask at GBBF 2011, Wednesday. Clear dark brown - offhwite head. High sweetness, butterscotch, herbal, licorice, caramel, toffee, oiley, nutty.

Cask at GBBF, 2011. Black pour with a beige head. Toffee and caramel aroma. Heavy vanilla flavour with a spot of milk chocolate. Light malty finish.

Tap @ GBBF. Pours deep brown with a small tanned head leaving some lace. Aroma is caramel, roasted, malty and sweetish. Flavor is fruity, malty, oily cons, sweetish, acidy and bitter. Finishes balanced bitter and malty.

From cask. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is mild butterish and dark roasted malty. Mild sweet, caramelish and slight liqourice. Roasted dark malty and breadish. Thick sweet and malty finish.

Cask@GBBF2011. Quite much pitch black colour, small head. Aroma is syrup, wood, liquorice, toffee, a bunch of caramel and mild plummy notes. Flavour is liquorice, wood, some syrup, sweet malts, mild smoked wooden notes as well. Rather bitter finish for a stout.
