3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 lassem (650) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 30, 2011
BIg bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, The pour is clearish golden with tiny lively yeast stuff swimming around topped with a inch high white head that fades a bit. The nose a fresh with a more hoppy profile than normal belgian ale that seems to be a little more perfumic talking generally. Citric notes and touches of melon and lots of saaz.. Its a pretty heavy aroma. The taste is likewise pretty heavy at first but fades quite quickly leaving the impressions of saaz and giving me chezck associations. Some metallic notes sneaks in to blur the picture a little but not enough to ruin the nice impression. The mouthfeel is medium with a creamy finish. nice summerly beer.

Appearance: cloudy, orangey golden; one-finger white head shrinking quickly; generous lacing. Aroma: floral, peppery, fruity and herbal, with notes of biscuit and pie crust. Taste: light, crackery malts, a slight honeyed sweetness, with notes of clove, ginger, pepper, and white grapes. Finish: smooth, crisp, a little dry and tangy, with pleasant lingering hint of floral sweetness and herb garden. Notes: Top notch Belgian-style golden ale. Become a little more herbal/spicy as it warms. Dangerously easy drinking, and the palate is excellent. Hides the alcohol, although there is a little pleasant warming in the belly before you know it.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours a really nice golden color with a fluffy white head. Good retention and some nice lacing, but not good enough to justify a 4.5 in a style where this is quite common; needs to go above and beyond. Nose is quite nice with some floral and grass plus some light pepper and Belgian yeast. Mild citrus and pear. The taste is nice with the yeast really coming through next to some floral and peppery notes. Great feel with all the components combining quite well. One of the best American examples of the style that I’ve had.

Bright straw body with moderate carbonation and a tall, white bubbly head. Nose is fruity with some barnyard characteristics. Sweet candied malt backbone. Bananas, yeast, esters . . . the usual suspects. A little thin and oily. Wheat and orange citrus. Nothing offensive but not stellar in any way.
