3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, USA - NOV 2, 2004
Medium hued golden yellow color, glowing but somewhat murky hazed and unclear much like jello, thinnish disproportioned white foamy crown slips away quickly, keeps a tiny collar and the lacing minimal in small sheeting and glaring globby spots.
Aroma is a whole lot of candy caramel used for dipping apples and some honey notes. Clean and malt laden with caramel; instantly preparing you for the sticky road ahead...
...sticky front of off-honey flavors and light caramel, not as much as one would think given the aroma being quite substantially large in the caramel load. Sweetly candyish in its staying power, some floral hop hints, touches of grass and a small nudge of sticky phenols kinda keep a smooth intention and a clean edge. Overall a bit one dimensional with the stickyness from the front staying firm til the end where it finishes out somewhat dry and clean. And boy it almost seems like it wants to have some spice near the finish too but that never quite reaches the surface. Leaves sticky caramel, honey, and lemon/apple/melon jolly rancher juices coating the tongue late in the finish.
It has a rich and sticky feel the whole trip through that does get a bit smoothed out from its steady carbonation in some places, mostly the middle to the finish. Body is about medium but lurking to the thin side and definately lots of sticky things going on, which I don’t mind, but overall was looking for a bit more complexity and stronger character.
This should maybe be changed (or classified; or whatever) to just a Belgian Pale and not a strong. Albiet it is listed at 8%, and I’m not quite sure what the offical cutoff between the two is; it never seems like its boozy, so therefore has a fairly decent drinkability. Not bad, but there’s better.

2006 vintage.
Pours a hazy, dark golden orange color with a half finger white head head that immediately settles into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind.
Slightly earthy aroma with muted hops subtle spice and sweet malts. Faint floral hops along with some pepper, rye, biscuit, caramel and toffee.
Medium bodied with soft carbonation up front and a decent balance of zesty spice and sweet malt notes. Hints of pepper and cinnamon followed by faint floral hops and spicy rye. I’m also picking up some light fruit which compliments the caramel, toffee and biscuit characteristics. Slight buttery aftertaste lingering into a dry finish. ABV is well masked at 8%.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 lassem (639) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 30, 2011
BIg bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, The pour is clearish golden with tiny lively yeast stuff swimming around topped with a inch high white head that fades a bit. The nose a fresh with a more hoppy profile than normal belgian ale that seems to be a little more perfumic talking generally. Citric notes and touches of melon and lots of saaz.. Its a pretty heavy aroma. The taste is likewise pretty heavy at first but fades quite quickly leaving the impressions of saaz and giving me chezck associations. Some metallic notes sneaks in to blur the picture a little but not enough to ruin the nice impression. The mouthfeel is medium with a creamy finish. nice summerly beer.
