COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like the digits suggest, itís a beer thatís densely populated with flavor and loaded with character. We donít filter it, so none of its life and soul is stripped away. The first thing you notice is the hazy, cloudy appearance. Thatís how you know itís unfiltered. What hits you next is the spicy aroma of Cascade hops, followed by the crispy, fruity ale flavor delivered in a smooth, creamy body, the result of blending barley malt with torrified wheat. Itís not like any other Goose Island Beer, but no less that youíd expect.

12oz bottle: Pours a hazy yellow with a soft cap that fades quickly. The nose is weak, some bubble gum esthers if you reallly try. The body was about the same for me - a bit hoppy with a nice balance of vanilla and banana, but nothing spectacular. Tastes like an American Wheat yeast strain and lower alcohol. I could drink quite a few on a hot day, but the style just seems to be a Hefe-light kind of approach.

Letís see... Urban Wheat. Maybe they meant Urban as in a college town. This is a pong-able beer and that is not a good thing. Cloudy golden pour. Thick sudsy white head that doesnít go away. Tons of carbonation. Bread-like near the end. Bad news, overall.

Pours a light hazy gold. The aroma is wheat and maybe some spicy citrus. The taste is American wheat and really not much more.

A fried brought this to a surprise party at our house. Warn and muggy day fit this well. More flavor than the standard beers that people bring over, a hint of citrus and spice, but not enough character to drink again. Might be a nice step for someone into the WWoCB (wonderful world of craft beers).

I really want to like this beer, unfortunately it’s a rare miss from Goose. Color is pale straw and transparent, similar to macro-crap. Taste is slightly wheaty and very light. Very very light. When it’s hot and the 312 is cold, it’s quite refreshing. However, so is just about anything. I’d have to say, stick to the other Goose Island brews.

Cloudy golden with tiny white head. Sweet yeasty aroma with fruity and wheat notes. Flavour likewise with hints of spice. Finishing sweet.

On tap at a Beef oí Bradys. Overall not a bad beer, more like a watered-down pale ale though. The wheat character comes out as it warms up, getting sweet also I might add. Light hops, malt and body (InBev, go figure) make for a good sports bar beer.

Very mild overall, for the easy drinker I suppose. It does have a good aroma, but light bodied.

Goose Island brews some highly acclaimed and sought-after beers. That said, many people believe that theyíve taken a sharp decline in overall quality since being acquired by AB-InBev in 2011, and their mainstream beers are the ones thought of to have taken the largest hit. Honestly, I havenít had many Goose Island beers; Iím pretty sure Iíve had their IPA and their Honkers Ale, but thatís about it. Iím not sure what exactly makes their 312 an ďurbanĒ wheat ale, but Iím interested to see what itís all about.

Appearance (3/5) The beer pours a slightly hazy light gold-to-straw with a bright white fizzy head and dissipates fairly quickly. The glass I used does not have a nucleation point, but there was still a steady stream of bubbles coming up from the bottom. (The glass shouldíve been clean, but who knows.)

Aroma (4/10) 312 has a faint sweet smell that has notes of grass, biscuit, and honey. There are some faint citrus notes, primarily lemon and orange, with absolutely no apparent bitterness. At the end there is a faint soapy note.

Taste (12/20) Goose Islandís Urban Wheat is definitely light. The taste is definitely that of an American style wheat beer, with bread and biscuit being accompanied by honey sweetness, some lemon citrus. In the finish there is a bit of astringency that comes off similar to a mild dish soap.

Drinkability (3/5) 312 is slick, but drinkable. The carbonation dies down after a few minutes, and the mouthfeel is light-to-medium. It isnít remarkable, so I wonít waste too much time.

Intangibles (4/10) Goose Islandís 312 Urban Wheat beer is mild, drinkable, and ultimately forgettable. While Iíll admit that it does have some interesting qualities, especially the light honey notes that are presented throughout the nose and palate, it isnít a beer that jumps out as anything I would bend over backwards to buy.

Overall (26/50)
