Delicious chocolatey dopplebock. Nice and malty, with a surprising amount of hops. I like the light flavor, a little light in body, though. Good. Bordering on refreshing.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 phaleslu (3543) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 30, 2012
Draft in a sampler at the Clybourn brewpub. Pours a clear, deep copper color with a small off-white head. The aroma is faint. Notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, chocolate, and booze- but all are stronger in the flavor. Medium-bodied, with a malty, uneven mouthfeel and low carbonation. Didn’t really work for me.

Draught at Goose Island Clybourn, Chiciago. Clear dark brown - offwhite head. Chocolate, roasted malts, berries, ok sweetness, cocoa, light bitterness, fruity, coffee notes.

Actually a pretty decent take on the style, wasn’t expecting that. Probably their best spring seasonal.

Snifter on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). A pre-Stoutfest beer. Pours a rich deep ruby brown hue, healthy ruby red and glowing deepness. Touches of haze, a good healthy frothy tannish head atop, dies to a good film, laces ok and remains thicker. Aromas are sticky toffee and oranges, dried fruit and marmalade, a touch of cherry. Crisp toast, biscuits, sticky toffee. Gentle spice, some mellow florals, touches of yeast. Inviting and sweet. Initial is medium bodied, a touch heavier with crisp sweetness, toffee and biscuits. Gentle citrus and red fruit kiss gently. Staying on task with a touch of lively toast, mellow sweet biscuits, grainy and cereal, rye bread, and touches of spice. A firm dryness into the middle and backend, dries out the malt a bit, just a wee touch of heat, a well integrated heat at that. Touches of apples, mellow brown sugar, dryness and crisp toast, malty. Dryness works well here, even in this weather I can drink this pretty well. Pretty solid, touches of dried fruit and maybe a hint of raisin. Nice.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 mxtur (266) - Michigan, USA - APR 3, 2011
Really threw me off from the beginning from the appearance. It was a paler color then other Doppelbocks I have tried. Kinda bitter and sweet. Idk.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Damico (1403) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 20, 2011
The aroma is lightly sweet and malty with a bit of honey, more substance than usual for the style. The beer pours mahogany with a chestnut hue and small tan off white head. The flavor is a bit syrupy maltiness, but light in body for the flavor, and then drops off pretty quickly.

On draft at R & H. Pours a dark yet cloudy coppery maple color with a small off white head. Aroma of dark fruit and candied malts. Taste is much the same as the aroma.

Tap at Rattle N Hum. Deep amber pour with a thin white head. The nose has a bit of soft sweet caramel and a touch of soft raisiny character. Sweet but not cloying. A nice light chocolate flavour and a fairly prominent hoppy spiciness as well. Warming and sweet.

tap @ blind tiger: not sweet enough for a bock, IMO. overattenuated maybe. Just dry and some astringency. Not getting chocolatey character from this one.
