COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the epic skyline of Chicago, Goose Island’s brewers set out to craft Big John; a tall, bold slugger of a stout that stands out vividly against the little soft beers out there. Epic amounts of roasted malt and an addition of cacao nibs give Big John a massive chocolate flavor and aroma. With a body as substantial and black as the building to which it pays homage, Big John is sure to inspire a sense of awe with every sip.

What is there to say? Huge coffee and bourbon flavors. Chocolate, caramel, molasses and roasted malts to name a few. Outstanding!

My Bottom Line:
Boastful chocolate leads to alcohol burn in this rich dessert of an Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the blackness.
-The flavor profile could be tighter.
-Roasted malt bitterness rides the alcohol wave in the finish.
-This isn’t as complex as I like my mammoth Impys.

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a very dark brown body and a dense, light tan head. The aroma has lots of molasses and roasted malts, as well as chocolate and cocoa. Some alcohol notes. It’s quite bitter on the palate, fullbodied and warming, oily and softly carbonated. The flavor has roasted malts, chocolate and some coffee, and a touch of alcohol. Lasting roasted finish with chocolate, molasses and cocoa. Overall, too warming, but sure tasteful and pleasant. A beer to enjoy slowly. 131122
