Had on tap at their place on Clybourn in Chicago. Had on cask. Golden amber pot with a rich and smooth creamy head. I likes this better than the ratings. Earthy and grainy and slightly sweet. A nice session beer.

Had on cask at the Goose Island Clybourn location. Has some sweet nut like aromas. Taste is a decent caramel malt, has an alright body.

Growler and served in my 32 oz tankard! : pours a nice amber hue with a mostly lasting frothy head and some spotty lace. The aroma has notes of crystal and biscuity malts, noble grassy and herbal hops, light apple and pear esters along with just a touch of earthy minerals. Smooth bitterness in balance with sweet and slightly toasty malts. Hint of twangy fruit and minerally dryness. The mouth feel is brisk and refreshing. It does what it is suppose to do, be a nice session bitter that you can drink 32 ounces of without getting overly buzzed. I like this.

Flight on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich golden amber pour, no haze, rich hues glow on and on, with a frothy offwhite head atop. Laces ok, as a decent film sticks around. Aromas are crisp cereal grains, touches of biscuit and earthy nuts. Gentle toast, grain, and a mellow earthy hopping hit the nose. Initial is lighter bodied, offering firm yet inviting sweetness, cereal grains and biscuits, gentle earth, toast, and nut. A touch of earth hopping goes the distance, drying out a bit, with a gentle yeasty spice. A lightly sweet, fairly sessionable body offers some firm flavors, a golden Bitter offers gentle biscuit and toast, dry earthy hops with just a hint of spice into the finish. Mellow, firm. Enjoyed.

Draft at Clybourn. Pours a brilliant deep gold with a nice white head on top. Nose is lightly nutty malts, some grassy/herbal English hops as well. Crisp and fresh. On taste, it carries a good balance of bitter and malty with bready malt & light citrus hops, fresh cut grass. Really great GI bitter house character. Lovely.

Goose island Bitter cold... Fresh sample from Jered at goose... Pours a medium bright irange hue with a thin to medium soapy white head... Bready malt profile in the nose, a little tea, biscuit in the backend... Semi-sweat grains upfront, tea, and a shy earthy bitterness lingering in the backend. Light and drinkable. Seen more hop forward bitters lately and this takes on more of a traditional profile. Body is light and carbonation is adequate. 6/4/6/3/12

On tap @ Clybourn on December 20, 2010. Clear golden brown with a thin head. Wet grain aroma pale malts not appealing. Light dirty malts slightly sweet and earthy. Thin body. Bad. 5/3/3/2/10

On tap at Goose – Clybourn. Poured medium coppery-amber with a dense, well-retained white head. The aroma picked up deep, warm biscuit and caramel maltage with earthy and floral accents.. serviceable, but not all that interesting. The flavor had a sweet core of honey, biscuit, and molasses malts.. lower bitterness around, mostly of the earthy variety.. touches of lemon over sweet, sticky sugars on the finish.. tasty and well-balanced. Lighter-bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. dry overall.. OK feel and flow.

On tap at the Clybourn location. From the menu: "Amber hued English Bitter with hints of toffee and biscuit from Maris Otter malts. A perfect session ale after a session of shopping." As advertised, this poured an amber-brown color with a half-finger white head that died down a bit quickly into a thin collar. The nose brought forward a bit of lightly-sweet bready malt plus a mild amount of light earthy, floral hops. The taste was restrained in all regards with a touch of bread and not too much else. I’d expect more out of something with this beer’s characteristics, even if just from the Maris Otter alone. Mouthfeel was night--light and refreshing. Drinks quite well and was glad to sit down for this session beer. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 01-02-2011

Half pint draft at Goose Island Clybourn in Chicago, Illinois. Aroma is toasted cracker malt, touch of floral earthiness. Taste is the cracker bright malt, smooth and clean. A bit of the floral mineral in the finish. Palate is medium to light bodied, lower carbonation felt right with the maltiness. Nice clean sessionable beer.
