COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A wonderful hoppy and flavorful double red ale designed to help our brewer’s wife enjoy her birthday and the holiday season. Crystal malt gives it a deep copper hue and full bodied caramel sweetness, while dry hopping in the serving tank gives a big floral hop contribution. It has a long bitter finish with some alcohol warmth. This batch was aged for an additional 4 months in bourbon barrels.

Tap at Clybourn. Pours a murky red. Aroma is mainly of the hops and some caramel. I thought it was fairly smooth and was a decent beer. It really didn’t have as much flavor or smell from the bourbon as I was expecting. Worth a try.

draft at clybourn. had this like a week ago, so i hardly remember it. aaron liked it a lot more than the casked scotch ale. i liked that more. there was pretty subtle wood character to it. the base beer is very quality. i dont know... malty, alcohol well hidden, slightly hoppy. caramelly. tannic vapours. who spells vapor that way... haha, i thought it was a british way to spell it, but then i looked and saw the guy below me is from indiana. so it’s probably just him being a poor speller and not him being british.

FoBAB 2008 (Blend of Bourbon Barrel Aged Debbies and Oak Chips Aged Stainless Steel Debbies): Muddy ruby red with a minimal head and some oily legs. The aroma has notes of rich caramel and toffee, bourbon and vanilla, lots of oak and tannic vapours, some grapefruit esters as well. The taste is aggressive alcohol and long lasting dry tannic oak which overwhelms the base flavors of the brew. No bitterness detected and there is a strange veggie aftertaste as well. The mouth feel is oily but a bit thin bodied, dry finish. Very average IMO.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2008 on tap at clybourn. pours reddish brown with beige head. aroma is initially hoppy with grapefruit notes, caramel, bourbon, oak, vegetal, and nuts. flavors of toffee, citrus, grapefruit, tar, hints of bourbon, some cardboady oxidation, and a tad vegetal in the finish. the middle is a bit sharp from bitterness and alcohol. not really very smooth and a bit boozy. i did like this a bit more than the regular version.3.5.

9/12/08, on tap at Clybourn, ’08 vintage. this turned out horrible! taste like vegetables cooked in dish water. 2.0.
