4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark plum/black. Thin head reduces to a ring. Oaky almost charcoal aroma. No alcohol on the nose though. Flavor is ri h cocoa malt overshadowed by the complex apple and fruit flavors. Its smootb on the palate, tingles the tounge and.warms a lot going down. Nice winter beer. Too bad they waited ’til Spring to tap it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
From Notes - Sample at FOBAB 2012, part of the special BC Flight. Said it was Apple Koval. Look and Mouthfeel of bourbon county, but instead of the whiskey it was sweet apples and booze. Tasty stuff.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Stoutfest. Pours a very lowly carbonated, nearly still black with minimal head overall. Nose is probably the worst BCS nose I’ve smelled. A bit solventy and some buttery notes in the background. Booze and brandy as well. On tasting, it shows similar solventy notes but they fade pretty quick. Nice apple/calvados type notes. Pomme fruit and chocolate, well integrated overall but that initial barrel hit sticks with you. Meh, interesting.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich dark deep opaque brown black hue, good aromas offer apple brandy, toffee, toast, and cocoa. Some coffee, gentle vanilla. Richer Apple Brandy, touches of oak, apple, spirit. Initial is apple brandy, roast, toast, gentle fudge. Middle is sweet, thick, toasty and fudgy. Backend shows some tannic vanilla, apple, and gentle spirit. Brandy, vanilla, and toast. Gentle vanilla, toasty marshmellow, and apple. Oak. Finish shows some gentle heat, some toast, vanilla. Solid offering, the Apple Brandy really brings a fun level, a touch of fruit and mellow acidity from the spirit. Good flavors, balance, still a firm thicker body. Nice.. really nice.

I was happy the apple brandy didn’t overpower the beer. Not too boozy, very nice.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Rattle N Hum. Keg from 08’ is what the menu said. Pours a deep brown/close to black with a thin but noticeable tan head. Leaves a nice mahogany lacing on the glass when swirled. Aroma is almost as sweet as the BCVS with notes of molasses, brown sugar, chocolate, and oak. Flavor is more boozy than the aroma but not overpowering in any way with a nice oak and chocolate finish. Some sweet dark fruit flavors are also present. Fantastic beer.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
’08 Vintage at Rattle N Hum. Of all of them which I’ve had I liked this one the best. By far the best nose, next the vanilla, its very sweet. Taste is very smooth with hints of molasses and brown sugar., with some vanilla and oak hints.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2013 On Draft at Rattle n Hum with Streets and Kyle during the Goose Island Twenty Tap Takeover Event. 2008 Vintage. Pours a deep brown body, nearly black with light chocolate brown lacing coating my glass. Aroma is sweet molasses, brandy, oak, vanilla bean and chocolate. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and silky with notes of sweet brandy, chocolate, molasses, maple, brown sugar, wood, and sweet vanilla. The alcohol is hidden incredibly well under the explosion and diversity of flavor. Very similar to Angel Share as it verges closer to an barrel-aged barleywine rather than stout. I hope I get to try this again.
