Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

Pours pitch black with A very, very, thin ring of chocolate head, that’s it. No lacing. Nose is very unique. Bourbon, a lot of vanilla, like all bourbon county, and a mix of berries. I can’t detect specific berry notes, but the presence of sweet fruit is there. Mouth is delicious. The boysenberry comes through very prominently for me. It’s like a chocolate covered boysenberry. Very sweet and tart. A lot of vanilla and some roasted malt. Great finish, with almost no bourbon present.

Bottle share at Bruce’s pad. Big thanks to Paul. Almost opaque reddish brown beer, small tan head. Palate is light and has mild carbonation. Rich dark malts delivered lightly. Touch of dark malt cream. Warming mellow boozey whiskey. Touches of berry fruits and chocolate. Finishes smooth and a little spicy. Lovely.

A 2013 bomber shared with ck1 at Timothy O’Tooles Bourbon County release on Spit Cup weekend. Black pour. Aroma had bourbon, sweet fruits, caramel, some choc and some bourbon Taste is multiple and varying fruits - sweet and ones I could not identify - plus caramel, chocolate, some roast. And bourbon. The fruitiness does cut through everything else in the flavor at some points. Sweet and good. Finishes strongly alcoholly bourbon, with bitter choc and that sweetness from the fruit. Better than expected. 16.2 ck1 says 15 or 16.

Small pour via johns grocery open house just today. Black pour with a tan head. Sticky sweet aroma with bourbon, berry, and toffee. Pretty big hit of the dark fruit really, almost jammy. Banana sweetness, some tobacco, a bit of citrus. Sweet on the palate, thick, big finish. Boozy but pretty restrained. Pretty nice.

4 dec 2014, bottle. Black. Nose is fruit cake, alcohol, nutty, soft red fruit. Full body, lightly syrupy, mildly fizzy. Damn this is good. Lots of red jam, dark chocolate, meaty, tobacco juice. Wow!

Bottle via trade, shared at Bruces. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is sweet, juicy, jammy berry, raspberry ripple, Swiss roll, roasty malt, vanilla and light cocoa. The taste is toasty, jammy, Swiss roll, lots of juicy berry, roasted malt, toast, salted caramel, earth, bourbon, wood and some warming alcohol with a roasty, fruity finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Soooo fruity. Crazy drinkable stuff. As always bourbon count delivers.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Paul. Pours black-brown with a creamy tan head. The aroma holds a lovely blend of chocolate and ripe berries, with understated roasted malts. Big sweet flavor, quite juicy, with lots of raspberry, strawberry, balanced chocolate, soft roast, light booze, touches of burnt wood. Full bodied with fine, almost spritzy carbonation, lightly warming to finish with sticky fruit sugars, dark malts, more chocolate, cherry, raspberry, blackberry. Some lingering alcohol heat. Exceedingly drinkable. Great stuff.

Rate 800. Bottle shared by AirForceHops, thanks Chris! Pours purple brown with a hint of off white head. Aroma is blackberry jam, slight bourbon. Taste is like regular Bourbon County with fresh blackberry / raspberry jam. Very smooth.

Bottle shared by kermis @ Kermis’ birthday party. Many thanks for sharing this one Chris! Big want for me. Opaque pitch black color, small dark brown head. Aroma is malts, huge barrel aging in there, liquor, sweetish alcoholic notes with some dried and overripe fruits. Taste malts, wood, liquor, lightly dried and overripe fruits again. A bit dry finish, thinner texture than I had expected, medium body and carbonation. If it was a little thicker I would have really loved it, now it’s ’just’ very nice.

22oz bomber. Pours black with small tan head. Jelly and marmalade aromas. Slight alcohol taste. Very roast and fruity. Slightly spicy from the rye. Finishes thick and tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
