COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release Ė literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 This was really good. The aroma was sweet berries, coffee, chocolate and boozy. Taste just like it smelled. The finish is where I think this one becomes a very good beer and makes it stand out from others. Think of really good quality dark chocolate and raspberry candy flavor. Yes candy, there is a sweetness in the beer that reminds me of the candy.

Black pour little purple hue to it. No head really. Oily thick. BlackBerry jam hint of oak with bourbon and chocolate. Silky nice barrel presences lots of berry sweetness. So good. Thick body light carbonation.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2014 Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Pitch black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and berries. The finish is boozy with a bourbon and sweet berry aftertaste. Very good all around.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice looking dark body that supports a light mocha colored head. The aroma offers up sweet malts, pine hops, spicy oak, some boozy rye like notes and then some chocolate in the background. The taste delivers smooth and delicious chocolate and burnt sugars and rolling into very nice nectar sweet berry like notes that just fit in oh so well. To midway more chocolate murmurs to the surface with a mild sense of booze and bourbon like notes. Wow, this is just delicious. Well off into the background nearing the finish I get a little bit of light barrel notes that seem vaguely vanilla and a bit of molasses. Oh my this is good and oh so well integrated and balanced.

One of the best beers I have ever had. Very dark but has a nice sweetness with a roasty finish. Wonderful.

GABF 2014. Massive raspberry jam nose, light bourbon. Viscous, but a bit less than the original. More raspberry jam, light rye spice, dark and milk chocolate. Decadent and all comes to together nicely.

Awesome aroma. Boozy port like flavor. The berries stand out as well as the rye barrel. Well done

Sampled at GABF. Black appearance with a light brown head. Similar to BCS with a light rye spice, dark fruits and light resin. Inferior to other versions.

bottle shared by a good friend, poured your regular bourbon county colour with no reall head. but just sticky lacing on the side of your glass. the smell is completely different compared to all other versions (like cherry..) very forward of the backyard berries, caramal, thick molassas, roasted malts, chocolate, sweet red forest fruits, bourbon part is a bit covered by the fruit sweetness, taste is more like a berry jam / marmalade as fresh fruits. forest fruits syrup, coffee, bit of a bourbon spice in the aftertaste. overall for me this is the less bourbon county version iíve had this far (still need to do the barmble), itís still very good, but itís like the base beer is completely covered by fruits (and at this point iím wondering if they have used only real fruits, or also some kind of a concentrated fruit juice.
