COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 This was really good. The aroma was sweet berries, coffee, chocolate and boozy. Taste just like it smelled. The finish is where I think this one becomes a very good beer and makes it stand out from others. Think of really good quality dark chocolate and raspberry candy flavor. Yes candy, there is a sweetness in the beer that reminds me of the candy.

Bombe obtained via trade. Bottled 20 nov 2013. Grandiose!

650ml bottle enjoyed @ a friend’s place, thursday may 21. Thanks to Jdizzle1. Pours pitch black With a tiny brown head. Aroma is vinous, fruity, coffee, strawberry and vanilla. Flavour is light bitter and heavy sweet. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is vinous and very sweet. To be enjoyed in small quantities because otherwise this will be too much.

Many thanks to Ron for the bottle. Yields a viscous, completely black color, with a very small head, which leaves back a thin, brown lacing, while the beer turns ember at the edges of the glass. Reveals aromas of milk chocolate, toffee, a faint coffee infusion and scorched walnuts. There is also oak, vanilla and a sweet, alcoholic berry fruitiness. Incedibly complex nose, with berries working very well with hot Bourbon, reminding me of pralines, while vanilla accentuates both the barrel and the marmelade fruits. Drinks very, very smooth, with a lower carbonation, revealing the beer’s full body. Sweet, sugar rolled, fruits are recognizable from the very beginning, accompanied by chocolate, molasses and burned, rich malts. Then the barrel not only lends its wooden qualities to the taste, but also its luscious, slightly biting heat. While the fruits are well pronounced, they are perfectly integrated into the beers chocolate maltiness, without overpowering the overall taste. Berries and Bourbon blend together to a hot peak on the palate, which’s aftermath reveals warm wood, earthy chocolate and a flowery dryness. During its finish, the beer develops a syrupy caramel note among the alcoholic berries. Overall this is a fantastic beer. It exhibits a fantastic depth of various flavors, all coming together in great harmony. My biggest concern, too much marmelade, turned out to be false. The fruits are prominent on their own, while they add a sugar glazed liquorice impression, blending flawlessly in the hot Bourbon and character of the brew.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of blackberry jam with light chocolate notes with some light whiskey notes is very interesting. Taste is a complex mix between sweet blackberry jam with some chocolate notes, some dry roasted malt with vanilla and light whiskey notes. Body is dense with smooth texture and good carbonation with alcohol really not that apparent. Maybe a little too much focus on the blackberry jam notes but a very nice beer nonetheless.

Deep black pour with a brown head. Aroma is berries, roasted malt, rye.. Taste is berries on first sip, followed by roasted malt., rye in the finish. The beer clings to the side of the glass. More berry flavor base. Not as thick as other BCS variants. Alc comes out as it warms.

Bottle thanks to Bursprak! Pours a pitch black with a small, short lasting, brown head. Aroma has lots of sweet berries, jam, slightly tart as well. Caramel, sweet, roasty malts, vanilla and some oak. Taste has a cool combination between the sweet and the sour berries, and then this vanilla oaky bourbon. Slight sugary sweetness as well. Not very roasty, but some chocolate going on as well. Very sticky body and low carbonation. Cool beer. well done! I really like it!

Bottle, shared by dresden, who brought me half of a freshly opened bottle even though we could not physically sit down and drink it together-- thanks Steve! Bottle is dated Nov 2013. Hearty near black pour, light brown head. Lovely combination of jammy field berries, chocolate, and bourbon, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and yoghurt. Sticky, complex, reminiscent of a ruby port. Loved it-- very much my kind of beer.

Outstanding imperial stout. High ABV but not boozy. Slightly sweet in flavor. Just good.
