COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release Ė literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

Bottle. Pours pitch black, minimal head. Aroma is complex. Mix of bourbon, vanilla, berries, overall sweetness. Taste is sweet up front, lots of berries. It mellows out the normal bourbon flavor, with hint of some chocolate. Nice different take on the bourbon county. Very nice.

At a massive tasting in Brussels. Backyard 2013 pitch black with a minimal head and a sweet wine like mulberry and blackberry aroma - wonderfully appetizing fruitiness. Med-light bodied with a spritzy carbonation. Heat, chocolate, berries and whiskey. Delicious.

Saved this for a special occasion and what day would be more special than when the Blackhawks won! Cracked open the beer while we waited for the Stanley Cup to arrive. Poured thick black, just like regular Bourbon County. Has that bourbon chocolate aroma that BCS has. Was sort of afraid to have a big stout with fruit, but this one is good. Very jammy tasting. Still get tons of chocolate and bourbon, but that berry jam taste is right up there. If you havenít had it, Iíd say try and trade for a bottle. Itís worth it.

I love all bourbon county, but this is one of the best variants and is reminiscent of the aged Bramble Iíve had in the past with itís more balanced jamminess.

Bottle @ ōlKonsortiet summer shananigans. Loads of berries in the aroma, black currants, raspberries, (yeah, I know these barries arenít in the beer, but who cares) oak, vanilla sweetness, Mon Cheri chocolates, awesome sweetness all around. Tastes like Mon Cheri cherry liquor chocolates, a hint of spicy rye barrel and oak, soooo much barrel and berry character in this beer, and it makes for a very good dessert on its own. What a sipper, and quite a unique beer.

Aroma of blackberries, truffle chocolate, honey, licorice, with fainted butterscotch honey bourbon, very vinous and jam like quality to the berries, which becomes overwhelming the more you drink. The berries are frontiers in the taste completely, quite acidic and a jam like quality to it, a bit like sour blackberries with a vinous bourbon finish with lots of oak tannin. Canít help but every sip feels like the berries donít mix in and seems the worsen the beer more than improve. Mouthfeel was quite thin.

Smells of stout and berries. Low carbonation. Tastes like a nice roasty stout up front with a really delicious jammy berry aftertaste that lasted 10-20 seconds.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2015 I was expecting just about nothing out of this and I was surprised that this was one of my favorite Bourbon County variants.
