COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Always on the lookout for the next thing they can throw in a barrel, our brewers actually looked no further than their own backyard for this release – literally. Inspired by the berries they remember first eating from the trees in their yards; this Bourbon County release is full of the dark, spicy, and pleasantly sweet flavors of mulberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. This trio of fruit nicely rounds out the spice and heat of the rye whiskey barrels in which they were aged, resulting in a smooth, jammy stout perfect for sipping on your back porch.

Great blend of berries, red wine, and molasses. A little spice from the rye. Not much roasted malt flavor - a very different type of stout. Probably my favorite bourbon county beer so far. Rich in the palate. ABV is well-hidden. A great beer.

Bottled. Pours almost black with a beige head. This one is pretty close to being the best of the variants....along with the coffee. The jammy fruit element adds a level of complexity to the otherwise boozy barrel character. Flavors of chocolate and cherry, bourbon obviously, nice long finish.

Had a glass on tap at Heidelberg for the Goose Island tasting. Very sweet, almost too much, but delicious.

On tap at Heidelberg for a Goose Island migration week tap takeover. The pour is a beautiful black like the others. There isn’t any head, just the beautiful black fluid of the gods. The aroma is nicely fruity, with a strong malt and roast backbone. The licorice and rye whiskey come through nicely and I just love the heated fruits. The flavor is blasting with fruit! Holy hell. I didn’t expect that. The roastiness and little bourbon come back on the end. But I love the fruits. It maintains a great fruitiness without compromising the lack of over-sweetness that shouldn’t be present. The mouth feel is a little thinner than the others but still thick and oily. I just it. The aftertaste is a little sweet and nicely roasty with a great, coating lingering beautifulness ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Excellent barrel aged stout. The rye adds a spiciness that most can’t touch. Warm alcohol and dark cherries fill the nose. Alcohol and dark fruit, plums, raisins, cherries, force their way on your tongue. Finish is long and warming with a lasting alcohol.

Bottle during RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room. Jet black with little tan head. Aromas of berries, coconut, vanilla, subtle whiskey. Tastes of big sweet berries, light coconut and vanilla, dark chocolate, some whiskey. Full body with a dry finish. Rye whiskey seems to be muted a bit by the berries.

From a 22 oz bottle shared on the 4th of July. My 3000th rating! Pours black with a tan head. Bourbon nose. Flavors of dark cherries, plums, oak and bourbon. Wow. This is one fabulous beer.

Bottle. Black pour with a tan head. Spicy rye with sugary fruit jam, bourbon, and a slight medicinal smell in the aroma. Taste is sweet fruit and rye with light chocolate and fudge. Coating mouthfeel. Quite nice but the fruit is not quite as impressive as the Bramble.

Bottle 650ml (PBF IX)
Dark opaque color, small white head. Roasted, berryish aroma. Full-bodied. Sweet, berryish, boysenberry flavor. Bourbon is not very much present here. Intresting and different variety. Very berryish and quite sweet.

65 cl bottle @ PBF IX. Bottled on 20.11.2013.
Pours black color with a small beige head. Some dry malts and caramel notes, some licorice, faint soy and dark ripe fruits, some wooden notes also. Dark malts and some caramel on the flavor as well, some faint vanilla notes and some harsh coffee-like chocolaty notes. Some berry-granola notes on the aftertaste. A bit weird at first but turns quite aggressive towards the end. Complex but a bit too berry-dominant for my taste. Good nonetheless.

Bottled@PBF IX. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma gooseberries, some liquorice, alcohol and mild toffeeish and sweet malts. Flavour is liquorice, some toffee, mild fruits and some sugary notes. OK, but too much berries.
