BERRIES. BERRIES. BERRIES. Nose is loaded with berries. Flavor is jammy with cocoa and some bourbon. A touch too boozy, but so loaded with berry flavor that I cannot help but enjoy it. A very different take on BCBS, but I admire it.

Bottle pour @ Noble Fir for Cubs playoff game. Pours thick deep inky black with reddish brown notes and very thin head. Aroma is big chocolatey roasty malt, tons of fresh coffee, then sizable bourbon cut by crisp spicy rye on the finish. Dry oaky notes throughout. Taste is similar - heavy chocolate, coffee, and bourbon; rich syrupy mouthfeel. Tart dark cherries show up here as well and add a nice flavor. Rye and age seem to mellow the sharp boozy notes you sometimes see in younger Bourbon County versions. Layer after layer of rich flavor, this is excellent.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of bourbon, red berries, raw sugar, chocolate, wood, light vanilla, licorice and sweet alcohol. Taste is medi sweet, light sour and light bitter with notes of chocolate, red berries, bourbon and wood. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Lots of berry presence, quite different from the other variants.

Bomber courtesy of Hackobock. Pours viscous black with a small mocha head that doesnít leave much trace but some legs on the glass. Smell is malty and fruity with roasted malts, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge, charred wood, blackberries, raspberries, dark chocolate, coffee, moist soil, dried pine needles and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, slightly sour, malty and fruity. Mouthfeel is round, tart, astringent, boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet, bitter and slightly sour with roasted malts, burnt caramel, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, sour berries, moist soil, black pepper corns and bourbon alcohol. Sour berries very much run over the bourbon county base. Sour berries and astringent pits. Fun beer but ruined bourbon county version.

Drinking this out in the open, campfire going and cant see how it pours. Bet it looks good... The smell is like dark chocolate with blackberry and cherry filling. Fruity! Clear bcbs backbone in the taste but with candied, jammy qualities. The afteretaste is sweet and ultra rich with even some sour berry notes. Vulgar and charming at the same time.

At a massive tasting in Brussels. Backyard 2013 pitch black with a minimal head and a sweet wine like mulberry and blackberry aroma - wonderfully appetizing fruitiness. Med-light bodied with a spritzy carbonation. Heat, chocolate, berries and whiskey. Delicious.

Saved this for a special occasion and what day would be more special than when the Blackhawks won! Cracked open the beer while we waited for the Stanley Cup to arrive. Poured thick black, just like regular Bourbon County. Has that bourbon chocolate aroma that BCS has. Was sort of afraid to have a big stout with fruit, but this one is good. Very jammy tasting. Still get tons of chocolate and bourbon, but that berry jam taste is right up there. If you havenít had it, Iíd say try and trade for a bottle. Itís worth it.

I love all bourbon county, but this is one of the best variants and is reminiscent of the aged Bramble Iíve had in the past with itís more balanced jamminess.

Bottle @ ōlKonsortiet summer shananigans. Loads of berries in the aroma, black currants, raspberries, (yeah, I know these barries arenít in the beer, but who cares) oak, vanilla sweetness, Mon Cheri chocolates, awesome sweetness all around. Tastes like Mon Cheri cherry liquor chocolates, a hint of spicy rye barrel and oak, soooo much barrel and berry character in this beer, and it makes for a very good dessert on its own. What a sipper, and quite a unique beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma of blackberries, truffle chocolate, honey, licorice, with fainted butterscotch honey bourbon, very vinous and jam like quality to the berries, which becomes overwhelming the more you drink. The berries are frontiers in the taste completely, quite acidic and a jam like quality to it, a bit like sour blackberries with a vinous bourbon finish with lots of oak tannin. Canít help but every sip feels like the berries donít mix in and seems the worsen the beer more than improve. Mouthfeel was quite thin.
