4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Going back to my notes on this one. It was at the tail end of a local tasting I did with friends from a while back, and the numbers are circled nicely but the writing is a bit vague. "Wow, just awesome... first rye I’ve been blown away by." Not exactly a helpful description. I do remember loving it though.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A little odd - a strange mash taste to this and blackberries have a pretty big presence. Pours black without much head or lacing. Definitely the least superior of the Bourbon County series. Finishes with light sourness. Thanks to someone at Churchkey’s 5th anniversary for giving away a taste of this. Bottle pour.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle sample @ CK. deep soupy brown with a small head. Nose is definitely faded and showing its age. Cardboard and overripe apples. Plum and cherry meat. Taste is better. Very jammy fruits. Cherry and plum. Chocolate. Pretty rich and viscous. On its last legs, but still has some charm.

"I don’t know if I can write accurately about the awesomeness that was this beer. There are good beers, great beers, beers so good you have to share, and then ocassionally, beers SO good, you want to hoard them all to yourself. I didn’t do that, but I milked my quarter bomber for all it was worth and was very sad to see it go. I returned my nose to the bottle a few times throughout the night as well. I was looking forward to the rye presence in the beer, but a little apprehensive about the fruit in addition to the different barrels. My worries were baseless. Perfect balance in both the complex aroma and complex flavor of raspberries and blackberries, slightly sweet and ever so slightly tart, spicy rye and whiskey, and vanilla, chocolate, roast, and a hint of coffee from the stout. This beer was amazing in every way. Sad that it’s such a pain in the arse to get, but damn I’m glad I got this one, and I hope they make this again. Rivals the far more expensive BCS Rare as the best in the line."

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark black with light mahogany red rim... Not much head... Aroma is berry jam... Flavor is big berry jam, dark roasted malts, rich malts... Kinda cough syrupy finish... Great beer, wish it was more roasted on finish

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at the Kulminator. Pours pitch black, no head. Intense nose of freshly squeezed forest fruits and roasted coffee beans. Medium body with nice roastiness, but my lord, the astringent fruit sours make the beer rather uh... not that good. Promising in the nose, but missed it.

Bottle - Boozy and jam and mollasses. Jet black with a thin head. Jam and chocolate chocolate. Just like at Christmas, but good. Another winner.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled @ Zeebra #2. Sampled 5cl. The aroma has lots of fruity berries, some bourbon, some chocolate, some roast. Black coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The taste is sweet, has raspberries, dark fruits, roast, chocolate, booze. Very nice. Medium-full bodied, velvetty.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
650ml bottle. Black with brown foam. Very nice layered aroma. Fruit-forward at first, with blackberry seeming to edge it over raspberry. Behind the fruit is bourbon and behind that is chocolate maltiness. Taste is also fruit-smothered but I can just pick out hints of tobacco, roast etc from the base and barrel. Almost chewy palate at times. Peppered with sweetness all through, but never overly so. The inclusion of the fruits work well enough, but I think I’d prefer fruit elements in a stout to be a sideline rather than a focus point.
