4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours pitch black and decadent with a creamy brown head, Aroma is wonderful with dominant chocolate coverted cherries, vanilla, bourbon, dark fruits and rasisin. Taste is slightly too sweet which is why I lowered the rating a tad. Still flavor is rich, full and robust with tons of cherry and bourbon.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a medium sized foamy dark brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet and tart cherries, band aide, bubblegum, yeasty, oak and cocoa. The flavor was rich tart cherry pie, gingerbread, pie crust, honey and whiskey. Long cherry pie and whiskey finish. There was an intense boozy presence throughout. Full bodied. Very interesting.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
22oz bottle, dated 11/12/12 via trade. pretty stoked to try this for the first time tonight. pours like the classic bourbon county with a dense, oily, syrupy texture that sits black in the glass capped by a razor thin, mocha head that leaves oily rings of lace. aroma is spectacular with all the things i love about bourbon county, heavy dark chocolate, roasted malts, hints of maple, toasted oak, and subtle coconut all balanced by incredibly unique notes of red wine, black cherries, and just a hint of spice. flavor is simply remarkable with notes of subtly sweet, subtly tart black cherries, pie filling, cherry cordials, and vinous fruits up front followed by the classic flavors of rich whiskey, baker’s chocolate, dense roast, and sweet, dry oak that i’ve come to love in the base beer with a hint of maple, dry coffee, and ash on the back end. palate is rich and full bodied while the interplay of the slightly tart cherries with the sweetness of the base beer keep it from being cloying. overall, this is another superbly crafter bourbon county variant. i still prefer the Rare and Vanilla but i put this right up there with Coffee. stellar.

thick black. Creamy chocolate head. Huge boozy rye bourbon, with a perfect touch of cherry. Thick, complex and fantastic aroma. Chocolate, cherry, rye, bourbon and finishing alcohol heat all blend perfectly.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 3, 2013 Very unique and interesting. Has the sticky sweet malt backbone that is typical of Bourbon County, but paired with nice flavors of cherry, almond, and rye whiskey. Has hints of cinnamon, brown sugar streusel... Tastes a bit like cherry pie. I’m amazed at how much the rye whiskey shines through.

22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of cherries, roasted malts, rye and oak, chocolate and coffee, and a light bitterness. Flavor the same with a little too much cherries for my palate. Thicker texture. A really good beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with Sparky! Deep ebony/squid ink pour with a mocha head that didn’t leave a spot but stained the inside the glass. Aroma is tart cherry, spicy rye, brownie batter, molasses, vanilla, and bourbon. Flavor has a weird artificial cherry cola flavor. Aspartame, Luden’s Wild Cherry cough drops, medicinal qualities. Still get some cocoa, bourbon, oak, and vanilla. A lot going on but nothing meshes well. Better as it warmed but individual attributes better than the sum of it’s parts.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with tan froth. Nose is bourbon, chocolate and black cherry with hints of spicy rye. Almost full body; quite hot. A lingering buzz lightens a bit. Incredibly rich and tasty like a bourbon, dark chocolate covered cherry. Belgian Red meets Chocolate Yeti.

bottle share at hill farmstead’s post-3rd anniversary. pours black as hell with a minimal beige head. roasted and smoky malts, dark and burnt cherries, tobacco and ash, light vanilla and wood, some sweetness and booze. soft carbonation, medium to full body - oily and sticky. enjoyed it!
