4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Tasted on tap during Goose Island Migration Week St. Louis. It poured an opaque black colour, reddish at the edges when held to the light, with moderate beige foam, long-lasting with nice lacing. Sweet malts, brown bread, toast, roast, chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, spicy rye, faint peppery hop balance, hardwood, cherries, plums, dried apricots. Medium-heavy body, low carbonation, full chewy mouthfeel, creamy, boozy but insanely SMOOTH alcohol, slight pleasant oxidation, layer upon layer of fruity, toasty, bittersweet aftertastes. A near perfect beer. I can’t wait to try this again one day.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 20, 2013 Bottle, thanks Tom! Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is what one would expect, classic BCS laced with cherries. Taste is a lot more cherry-forward than the aroma, with IMO the perfect amount. Silky smooth, roasted warming finish. Great stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, a little upset this made the RB top-50, after the Bramble Rye fiasco. Opaque, thick, oily black pour with rich brown foam. Strong cherry aroma up front, quite medicinal, wild cherries, alcohol, cherry chocolate, not much rye shows through all this fruit. Strong cherry pie flavor, dark chocolate, syrupy. Palate is rich, smooth, probably the strong point in this beer (BCS is BCS). At least it’s much better than bramble, but we’re nowhere close to the other variants or even the original here.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rating #3000. Bottle shared big thanks to iphonephan. Pours near black with a ring beige head. Certainly get the cherry and rye in the aroma, a big red fruitiness, licorice, soy, rich chocolate, caramel, molasses, some light coffee behind. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter. The mouthfeel is thick and syrup like with the initial sweetness softening into the finish. Full bodied with very soft carbonation. Beautiful!

Picked up a bottle quite a while after the last release at a local bar. A big want and my first Bourbon County. Overall I thought it was pretty solid. I was actually expecting better. It was pretty upfront with the alcohol. Would like to try another with some age under its belt.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted blind at a horizontal including Vanilla, Rare, Cherry Rye, Bramble Rye, Coffee ’12 and an ’09 Bomber. Poured into a snifter at approx 55 degrees. Reviewed from blind tasting notes. 6/6 in the lineup.
A- This looks like bourbon county stout. Pours with a bit more head than some other variants, although it fades almost immediately just like the rest. Dark, thick, little to no carbonation evident.
S- There is some cherry on the nose along with rye, bourbon, oak, and chocolate. Some sweet notes as well.
T- Cherries- sweetness, a tart note, slightly cloying. In addition, chocolate, bourbon, a very subtle rye note as well. Lingering sweetness and bourbon notes on the end.
M- Typical bourbon county. Not much carbonation, great oil slick thickness.
O- This is definitely better than bramble. More rye for sure, and the cherries aren’t medicinal like in bramble. This placed 4/6 out of all 6. Very good, and I will probably trade for more if the opportunity presents itself.

Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Brown dense head. ARoma. Coconut, vanilla, sweetness, fruits, roast, vague coffee and light smoke. Flavour of cherries, roast, cocoa, coconut, some chocolate and caramel. Medium to full bodied. Ends roasted bitter with some cherrie sweetness to counter. NIce.
