Everyday Goose Island smells the wonderful coffee roasting next to our brewery at Chicago’s Intelligentsia Coffee and Tea. This world class roaster puts the same passion and skill into their coffee as Goose Island does with its beer. This excellent stout is made with a different coffee from our friends next door each year. With the change in coffee comes a change in the flavor profile, making each release truly unique from the previous years.

- First bottle release seen in Spring 2010 as "Bourbon County Coffee Stout".
- Also available previous years at the brewpub as "Black Cat Bourbon County Stout"

Visual - The color is dark as midnight with a thin beige head. Aroma - Smell like coffee, chocolate, oak, roast malt, and vanilla with no off odors. Taste - a lot of coffee, sweet caramel start with littler bitter but no off flavor. Mouth feel - very creamy texture, thick body with low carbonation sensation. Overall - It is a nice beer to drink at all. Highly recommend to everyone who like to drink beer.

2013 vinatge. Pours pitch black, nice mocha head that leaves nice lacing and has quite the legs. A bit of oil of the top, taboot. Aroma is robust coffee, char, roasted nut and bourbon....lots of bourbon. Taste is decently balanced with coffee dominating the base beer. A good thing in my book. A nice thick and syrupy body helps hide the booze in this sucker. However, the barrel character always seems to become dominate as this beer warms. Just a bit too big. You can’t deny the intensity of this brew because it certainly punches you in the face with flavor.

Drank with Thijs, Rik, Marijn, Bram, Thierry and Lennart during the 24-05-2014 tasting. Nice beer. Very thick, oily. Coffee taste however is not that pleasant. Still the great bourbon county taste is damn delicious.

Bottle. Lots of coffee in the aroma with a mocha and vanilla light undertones. Taste is similar to cold brew coffee with a nice nutty porter as the base. served pretty cold so it took a minutes for the booze to hit. Nice barreled stout that uses the coffee well.

Clear dark purple to brown beer, aery beige to brown small head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of coffee, mocha, some caramel, lots of vanilla, bit dusty, fudge. MF: ok carbon, full body, creamy texture. Taste: sweet caramel start, lots of coffee, mocha, vanilla, little bitter, milk chocolate. Aftertaste: bit sourish, chocolate, coffee, alcohol burn, caramel, quite some vanilla, sweet, bit sugary. Nice beer, and I don’t even like coffee beers in general!

Small sample from bottle @ Zeebra II. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma has bourbon, coffee, quite some roasted malts, dark chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Taste has dark chocolate, quite some coffee, hard roasted malts and a medium bitter finish. Full body, soft to medium carbo. Nice stuff.

Bottle: 2013: Served in a Chouffe glass: Aroma from the bottle is already intense coffee and intensly balanced. Medium sized brown foamy head on top of a black colored beer. The aroma is one of the best balanced aromas from a coffee stout out there: sublimely deep deepmcoffee roast with some chocolate hints, chalk tints and a marzipan bourbon edge. Flavours of spice, pepper, coffee, coffee roast, coffee beans, coffee beans roast, chocolate, dark chocolate, some chalk, wood roast, light sweeter coal, some smooth yet stronger bitters, hint of mocha, some coffee and dark chocolate bitters and a tar sprinkle. Only the loveliest darkest things to taste! Aftertaste is a mix of loads of coffee beans roast, chalk, dark chocolate and some "coffee bean candy" with a delicious roasty bitterness. Delicious roasted and balanced coffee tones! World class! Low carbo, silky some spiced mouthfeel, full bodied and a oily to more silky foamy texture. What a coffee imperial stout, the best I have ever tasted! Sublime!

Another tasty Bourbon County beer. Taste of coffee, combined with the sweet vanilla of the bourbon. Great beer.
