4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
On tap at Heidelberg for a Goose Island migration week tap takeover. The pour is jet black with a thin dark khaki head and no lacing. This thing just falls to black liquid, which I love. The aroma is blasting with coffee. Incredible. The roasty malts pale in comparison, and the coffee is just beautiful. Not overly done, but nicely dominated. The flavor is just as great. Itís a little hot, but the coffee and the rye barrels keep it from being over bearing. The mouth feel is thick and viscousy, with minimal carbonation, and a lovely roasty, molasses-y flavor to go along with the incredible coffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks berntholer, for sharing this one. If you would like to smell & taste coffee, earthiness, mokka ice, this is your beer. Great velvet mouthfeel. A good balance betweeen the bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the barrel. An excellent brew to me. Gets every sip better and better. Always interested for a trade on this one.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The beer pours dark black. Smell is mostly bourbon, vanilla and a little bit of alcohol. No coffee detected. Taste is bourbon, vanilla and chocolatey with no coffee. Oily mouthfeel with slightly too little carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable but itís not hot. Overly bourbony and sweet and exactly like bourbon county stout. No coffee whatsoever. Disappointing and one dimensional.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013 vinatge. Pours pitch black, nice mocha head that leaves nice lacing and has quite the legs. A bit of oil of the top, taboot. Aroma is robust coffee, char, roasted nut and bourbon....lots of bourbon. Taste is decently balanced with coffee dominating the base beer. A good thing in my book. A nice thick and syrupy body helps hide the booze in this sucker. However, the barrel character always seems to become dominate as this beer warms. Just a bit too big. You canít deny the intensity of this brew because it certainly punches you in the face with flavor.
