Surprised I haven’t reviewed this one yet (this bottle is one of the couple the COOP could provide me. I am very appreciative)
Years ago, Inflatablechair hooked our tasting group with the 22’s of this one plenty of times. Tonight a ’13 12oz is all mine. A short-lived dark brown head rises only about a quarter inch up and dies very quickly... the brew pours thick and very smooth.
The nose is for the most part hammered with coffee beans... not "ground coffee" but cracked coffee beans... there is a nice cocoa element that doesn’t really rise up until things warm considerably... the bourbon/barrel presence is not as much as I remember in the 1st batch, but it is still certainly present.
Flavor mirrors the nose with a strong dark fruity element.. a big figgy component that adds needed sweetness... the malts help balance the big coffee bean presence.. very nice chocolate waves sorta envelope the entire palate.
Huge body is no surprise... mild carbonation begs for a sip and contemplation.
Don’t age this one... Not worth it.

Bottle from Proof. Pitch black pour with a dense brown head. Huge coffee aroma, cocoa nibs, coconut, vanilla beans, oak, sweet bourbon with a hint of dark fruits. Sweet chocolate on the front of the tongue, powdered cocoa, coconut, vanilla, bourbon in the mid palate, roasted malts and charred oak coming through in the back end. Rich bodied and soft carbonation. Alcohol heat isn’t that noticeable. Goddamn delicious.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a pitch black with a small tan head with nice lacing. Aroma is of gourmet coffee, roasted malts, licorice, dark fruits, bourbon, molasses, vanilla, and a little booze. Taste is similar to the aroma with the addition of some tobacco notes and some cold brew iced coffee flavors. Has a full body with creamy, oily mouthfeel, and a moderately bitter, long finis. Overall, a very nice imp. stout that is just as good as original BCBS and features coffee from one of my favorite roasters nicely.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2013 release, opened 11/30/13. Pitch black, with no head to speak of. Huge, dark roasted coffee on the nose, with a bourbon oak background. Almost like smelling fresh ground coffee, with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Perfect mouthfeel. Tons of dark coffee, but almost no astringency at all. Smooth, but not sweet. A finishing alcohol heat leaves an aftertaste of dark chocolate, more coffee and some of the vanilla bourbon notes. Amazing

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours pitch black and very oily, with a small dark brown head. Huge roasted coffee on the nose, vanilla bean, dark fruits, caramel, bourbon, hints of oak, and a bit of caramel. Wow, this tastes incredible. Again, lots of roasty milky coffee up front, strong oak and bourbon, molasses, earthy chocolate taste, and hints of vanilla bean. Smooth, silky goodness. Leaps and bounds better than KBS, and definitely an improvement over regular BCBS. So much going on, so complex and not just another bourbon bomb. Thank you for not messing this up, AB Inbev.

11/24/13. Given to me in a trade for TH growlers.
As much as I loved regular BCBS, this coffee version raises the bar even higher.
Every rating of every category would be rated as excellent.
I'm not wasting anymore of my time writing about it.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Local distribution (briefly) in South Florida. Picked up two 12 oz bottles. Snifter pour. A very dark brown, thick pour with a thin mocha head that disappeared quickly. The aroma...WOW the Aroma. I love coffee and expresso. Nose is overwhelming coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malts. Taste was amazing with expresso, dark chocolate, roasted malts and a hint of heavy leche. Thick, full, chewy body. Not oily but full of lactose thickness. Mild carbonation. Finish is strong coffee and cocoa nibs.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg @ Churchkey. 2013 vintage. The pour’s deep brown with hardly any head whatsoever. Strong roast coffee dominates the nose. Charred earth, brash espresso. Dark chocolate. The taste is thankfully a bit more rounded. Boozy wood, caramel, dark chocolate. Slight coffee acidity. Toffee candy finish. Big, fat body. Syrupy and thick. Light carbonation. Overall, pretty tasty indeed.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: medium roast coffee, brown sugar, vanilla bean, fried nutmeg. Appearance: pitch black with very little head. When head did appear, it was medium brown. Taste: bitter coffee, sweet fudge. Palate: creamy/oily mouth feel. Slightly harsh finish. Coats the mouth.
Bit too much coffee for my tastes; this feature is better as an aroma than a taste.
