My 2011 bottle was poured into a snifter. I regained composure after an initial sniff, and was able to identify caramel, chocolate, roasted coffee, alcohol, slight butterscotch, soy sauce, vanilla, and oak. The appearance leaves a little to be desired, as the fizzy brown head quickly faded to a thin ring around the glass. The taste begins with medium sweetness, followed by light bitterness and lingering umami. Its body is medium, with a slick texture, almost flat carbonation, and long finish. Overall, this is a fantastic BBA stout, and the coffee enhances the aroma and flavor without becoming conspicuous. Kudos to the brewers and barrel aging crew at Goose Island.

2012 bottle from Chevy Chase in DC. Enjoyed this a lot. Tried a 2011 version later, and wasn’t as good. Very smooth and well blended flavors.

Bottle at craft ale house. Pours pitch black with no head to speak of. The aroma is not pungent but has light coffee and chocolate. The taste has a nice milk chocolate mix with coffee grind and bourbon.

Thanks Mike W. for the taste. Aroma is great and rich coffee, dark roasted malts, molasses, figs and bourbon goodness. Very easy to drink given the high ABV. Great beer.

Location: Draft at Ginger Man, 4/12/13

Aroma: It has a fairly bourbon nose with some coffee/roast malts as well
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a small head and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, medium sweet, and without much bitterness
Palate: It has a smooth and creamy full bodied feel, with some burn, but it is still fairly easy to drink
Overall Impression: Very good stuff. This one hit my expectations pretty much right on. I was glad to stumble upon it on draft at Ginger Man.

ZEBF 13 no idea of the vintage . Im guessing 2012 pours black, no foam. smell is sharp, intence, coffee, but in a bad way .. soft carbo, all coffee in the taste, together with the bourbon. bitter aftertaste , more towards bourbon in the end.

Poured a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roast malt, a little coffee and dark chocolate, dark alcohol soaked fruit. Full body, flavour as the aroma. Could have been a bit more coffee-ish.
