One of my favorites from Stoutfest 2012, pours a dark brown with a khaki head. Nose of whiskey, vanilla, and chocolate. Very whiskey forward, wasn’t may favorite, but a great variant.

Draft at Stout Fest. A different version of the Rye barrel aged stuff. Pours a deep brown black with a dark brown head. Nose is whiskey forward. Vanilla and sweetness, cocoa and molasses. No hops, lots of roasty malts. On tasting, it starts out with a bit of a hot sting but then great whiskey character. Soft vanilla and spice come through, followed by a drying roast. On the sweeter side from the barrel. Pretty outstanding variant.

Enjoyed on tap at Goose Island Stout Fest 2012 in Chicago, IL. Appearance is pitch black, thick, no head. Aroma like all the other BCS brews available, after drinking 10 different stouts, 3 of those BCS varieties, it was hard to pick this one out from a regular BCS. Taste is potent like others in the series, its good. There were other varieties of BCS I had which I feel are better than this, but it’s still BCS so its still great!

Samples poured on tap at Goose Island Clybourn’s Stoutfest 2012 (Chicago, IL). An old Heaven Hill barrel stamped with 84. Pours a rich inky blackish pour, with some rich spicy rye, oak, vanilla. Firm barrel mixes with fudge, toffee, caramel. Touches of coconut, roasted malts, light coffee. Rich barrel works with a sweet nose. Initial is full bodied, offering fudge and vanilla, oak and touches of spirit. Sweet fudge and black forest chocolate cake. Touches of oak, spice, mellow warmth. Middle is fudgy, coffee, and cocoa. Toffee, caramel, rich flavors. Finish is sweet, lingering with some mellow barrel. A sweeter blend, tamer yet flavorful barrel. Nice.
