COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From Greg Hall:
"BCS rare, Iím excited. Brewed in 2008, aged for 24 months in 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle Barrels. These are the very best smelling barrels Iíve come across in 18 years of barrel aging beer. Barrels were originally filled with spirit in 1985. We have 50 bourbon barrels aging, it will be a one time bottling, it will not be repeated."

sampled during the 2011 RBWG weekendbottle pours thick black with a medium dark brown head. Aroma is equal parks vanilla and bourbon. Flavor is rich and thick roasted malts, sweet bourbon, coconut and toffee. Finishes with a oak and hot alcohol finish. Lovely stuff.

Bottle, iíve had this 3 times now. Pours a black body with pretty much no head faint bubbly top, little to no carbonation. First off i get a lot of bourbon and wood tones. Subtle chocolate with a roasted malt tone. Light vanilla mild coffee toned bitterness. Still i find this too boozy and next to a 2008 BCS i felt there was little to no difference, hence i felt this was a big rip off. Well even if it was outta this world 50$ for a bomber, is ridiculous. Maybe that left a bit of a sour note on this. On a whole thereís too much alcohol despite the lighter oxidation barreling notes.

Thanks to forgetfu for that one! Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass deep black, oily, small head. Starts heavy malty, very oily, very strong, woody notes, some coffee and notes of old chocolate. Burning finish, intense malty notes, modest sweet and alcoholic hints. Impressing!

Bottle at friday night hotel tasting at EBF 2011.
Aroma : Bourbon vanilla with wood. Nice bourbon. Some roasted malt and chocolate. Very rich.
Taste : Roasted malt with bourbon and vanilla. Light alcohol and light coffee. Very rich. Finish is a bit warm with nice bourbon. Nice roasted malt and chocolate too.
Overall : I thought this was really well balanced and very rich. Nice bourbon presence but not overwhelming.

22oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Snifter at 42į. This pours like used oil, its thick and black, carbonation is low with very little head (I have just a brown ring on the edge of my glass). Aroma is rich with roasted malt and oak. The full body has a rich yet crisp mouth feel. flavor is bold with the oak standing out in front giving a bright vanilla flavor reminiscent of bourbon then the taste of raisins soaked in brandy. After taste lets the dried fruits stand out with the oak building a bit more and the alcohol shows a bit. overall its a wonderful brew but the there vanilla seemed to be a little more complex.

22oz bottle #4147 3/25/11 42į in Snifter-Pours black with a small tan head that dissipates into nothing. Aroma of bourbon and more bourbon. Taste of bourbon, vanilla, dried fruit, malt, and coffee. This full bodied brew is well balanced but IMO the Vanilla is better in taste but still a great brew. Glad to have tried this.

Luckily, lurchingbeastís package arrived today with this in it. I needed this because today I fell victim to one of the stupidest driving manuevers in history (not from me) and my collision insurance-less car is now totaled. All the people involved are okay, but my í87 baby blue Civic will be resting in pieces. Poured into a snifter. Bottle number 1,817 which was bottled on 11/19/2010. 3.0 A: The BCS beers arenít know for the good looks and this is the same. Poured a thick, viscous black color. The amount of fizzy medium brown head peaked about about one finger before quickly falling back into the bourbony abyss below. 4.5 S: This is noticeably mellower than any of the other versions, including one and two year old vintages of the regular BCS. The two years this spent in the Pappy barrels must have been a time of peace. Bourbon is much less forceful than the other versions and better integrated. Bourbon and barrel add oak, a touch of leather, a little more vanilla, cocoa, melon, and a light nuttiness. The underlying stout gives a bit hit of black licorice, milk chocolate, caramel and some toffee. Mild booziness, less than the other. Roasted barley of course is there, but is dominated by the sweet components, just like the full BCS lineup. 5.0 T: The taste for regular BCS warranted a perfect taste score and this one certainly does as well. Itís neither better nor worse, different, but not radically so. Again, the bourbon is much better integrated and a hell of a lot smoother than the regular. This is a give and take because it doesnít have the edgy bourbony strike that the regular has. Tons of melon and a peach/apricot like fruitiness. Some leather, oak, and vanilla. The booziness is quite present, but it seems to be a "smoother booziness" if that makes sense. Cocao, milk chocolate, sweet toffee and molasses, and of course some roastiness. Damn good. 5.0 M: Thick, rich, and robust body. Good moderate carbonation. Super creamy and smooth. 4.5 D: One hell of a beer, but the quality of this is negligibly different than the quality of regular or coffee BCS (vanilla wasnít as good) and thus justifying multiple purchases of this is unwarranted. That isnít to say this isnít different. Itís definitely smoother, mellower, and perhaps even more insanely complex and Iím more than happy that I was able to give it a try (and drink the whole damn bottle). Bottle at Paul and Ryanís tasting. The aroma is chocolate, cream, slight bourbon. The bourbon didnít jump to the front as I thought it would. The appearance is like any other BCS, deep black, tan head. The flavor had nice, sooth, sweet bourbon upfront, chocolate, vanilla, cream. The finish was sweet, bourbon, piney hop bittering. Beautiful thick body, creamy mouthfeel. Awesome beer. Still, I didnít love it so much more than regular BCS. Not enough for this beer to cost $3 an oz.

Bottle pours thick jet black with tan head. Aroma is nice. Strong chocolate and bourbon. I could smell this all day and night. Just wonderful. Flavor is what you expect from bourbon county. The chocolate, coffee notes, and that wonderful bourbon note. A touch of soy in there as well. The bourbon is smoother than the regular version. Just outstanding.

Bottle # 2439. Joan Jett black pour with a tiny off white head. Holy bourbon batman, what a freakiní nose... Insane molasses, toffee, chocolate, and vanilla flavors blend perfectly with the silky smooth king of bourbons (PVW) and the rich roasted malts. Great body. I canít imagine this bad mutha after a couple years in cellar..........
