From Greg Hall:
"BCS rare, Iím excited. Brewed in 2008, aged for 24 months in 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle Barrels. These are the very best smelling barrels Iíve come across in 18 years of barrel aging beer. Barrels were originally filled with spirit in 1985. We have 50 bourbon barrels aging, it will be a one time bottling, it will not be repeated."

22. Thanks, ebay. I appreciate the opportunity to hemorrhage cash into you. Pours black with a dense and creamy dark tan head that doesnít stick around for too awfully long. Big sweet chocolate and vanilla nose. Sweet, creamy, and roasty. Very bourbony. Smells like BBQ. Sticky thick fairly lively body, given the style, but very thick and rich. Roast, chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, maple, and bbq on the mid-palate. Sweet, roasty finish. Nice big thick BA impy.

Pours a dark black with a small tan head. Aroma is complex vanilla, bourbon, licorice, chocolate. Taste is sweet caramel. Chocolate, vanilla and mild booze. Very good palate, lots of heat. Overall an excellent brew.

Pours black, almost more like a super-rich brown with a small but stubborn head. Strong bourbon scent but within it are deep, rich malt scents. Dark chocolate, dark fruits, and black licorice. Taste is so smooth! Immensely rich taste but allowing for big sips too. Mellow caramel with raisins, figs, and dark chocolate, all imbued with bourbon. And the bourbon is smooth too. No bitter, no smacking, only ever so slightly boozy. Rich, mellow, smooth, and huge. What a unique and special treat to enjoy this beer.

Tasted at the mikes gi vertical. Nose is high sharp alcohol. Smooth bourbon. Taste massive alcohol bomb with oak and hints of cherries waaaaay in the top and back. Massive alcohol. Lots of movement but lords hotness. Super glad I got to try this one.

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2011 Sampled @ RBWG...not sure who brought this but THANKS!!! Had this side-by-side with all of the Eclipses including PVW and it did more than hold its own. Squid ink with a small chestnut film that quickly slides to the sides forming a ring around the inside of the glass. Smooth and silky bourbon, vanilla, fudge, pudding, bakerís chocolate, dark fruit and oak. You can definitely tell that this has been aged for 2-years and using high caliber bourbon...all of the rich flavors are present without harsh, off, or hot qualities. Extremely complex. Liquid velvet in terms of consistency. World Class!!! BUMP!!!

Thanks to the Chicago crew for sending this one my way. Pours black as night with just a few bubbles. Aromas of rich roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and a bit of booze. Flavors are nice and rich roast and fudge. The barrel really comes out nicely with flavors of vanilla and smooth bourbon. Thick and still on the tongue. Could use a bit more carbonation. Real nice brew.

Bottle to snifter. Pour is oily black with a tan kahki head that fades to a tiny thin collar. Aroma is bourbon coco and vanilla with a solid roasted malt scent, and a boozy scent. Taste is awesome smooth bourbon roasted malt and chocolate vanilla and coffee, and some cream, and alcohol. palate is full and subtle fizz with a awesome slick coating and finishes dry. Really happy I tried this one, because this may never be avilable again!

Bottle thanks to portableparty!! Dark black pour, quickly dissipating carbonation and a mellow vanilla bourbon and chocolate/whiskey aroma. Flavor is also very mellow oaky bourbon, vanilla, a little caramel and finished with a very soothing and warming good bourbon aftertaste. I hate to admit it, but this one really lived up to the hype.

Bottle shared by the other Matt the other day at the other house. This is the other Bourbon county, the green one, served in a Russian River wine glass. Thanks Matt! This beer was also drank close to the same time the Bourbon County Brand Stout (regular) vertical was drank. Iíll review that later. Beer looks exactly like BCBS, itís black, thin head of small tan bubbles, minimal lacing, low carbonation, the swirl leaves a coating on the glass, legs appear, looks really nice. Aroma is great, it has this sweetness from the malt, hints of roast with a strong but not overpowering woodsy and liquor character. The liquor is smooth and flavorful on the nose. Beer is medium in body and lowly carbonated on the palate. Beer is sweet at lead off the way a syrup is sweet, giving way to a huge, flavorful midpalate experience of strong liquor and alcohol. The finish is a little dry with minimal bitterness, somehow accenting the flavor of the oak and the bourbon, it tastes really nice. For such a big and aggressive beer it drinks wonderfully. I am very curious to see how this ages. Very excited about this beer in general. I am not a scotch or single malt expert but all of these nuanced flavors from the different barrels definitely makes me curious. Serving type: bottle

Bottle provided by Mike for our tasting tonight...Black pour with light carbonation, typical bcs...The aroma is pretty light, especially for a bcs, Iím shocked. Its not hot at all where is rare for a bcs beer, even one of the older aged ones. While I donít love the heat, I miss it a little. The aroma of vanilla and bourbon is nice, just not enough of it to get me really excited...The taste is really smooth, lightly creamy. Lots of vanilla is really nice, makes this really easy to drink. Light bourbon and alcohol, flavor palate just doesnít have a ton going on. An aged BCS, smooth, but the aging makes its loses a lot of its character. Worth trying, but not worth the price tag.
