COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From Greg Hall:
"BCS rare, I’m excited. Brewed in 2008, aged for 24 months in 23 year old Pappy Van Winkle Barrels. These are the very best smelling barrels I’ve come across in 18 years of barrel aging beer. Barrels were originally filled with spirit in 1985. We have 50 bourbon barrels aging, it will be a one time bottling, it will not be repeated."

Bottle. Finally a beer that has lived up to the hype. The pour is dark with some head. The aroma is blissful, not overpowering bourbon, but enough to warm your nose. The taste is the smoothest beer I have ever had. Never had it fresh, but the bourbon is mellow, but has tons of flavor. Finishes perfectly smooth. Can’t say enough about this beer, finally a 5.0!

Date: September 5, 2011 Mode: Bottle Source: Trade with FullObs, Plainfield, IL Appearance: Opaque jet black, slight amount of tan head and good lacing. Aroma: Chocolate, bourbon, woody and vanilla. Flavor: Consistent with aroma but also some sweet brown sugar or molasses, thick bodied, and a long lasting delicious finish. Other: This was amazing! Had to put my whole beer rating experience under analysis after trying and could not say this was not at the top or near top of its class in every category. Bottled 11/19/2010, bottle 7,324. Shared with BVery which made the experience even better.

I have no encountered a imperial stout yet that stacks up to this. After doing a huge vertical tasting of multiple years of DL, KBS, CBS and many others, this was the hands down winner. The complexity in this beer is unmatched.

Hands down the best beer I have ever had. Period end of review. Oh well just for fun, the aroma is incredible two years of sitting in a bourbon barrel will do that. The appearence is pitch black darkness. The taste is money huge bourbon lots of sweetness. For how boozy it smells it is incredibly smooth. Overall as I said the best beer I have ever had.

Bottle, huge thanks to tkrjukoff. Pitch black beer with a small brown head. Oily whisky aroma, malty, oaky, vanilla, milky notes, figs and raisins, some blanced smoke notes, hops, almond, chocolate and cocoa powder, Malty flavor, oily, roasted, some smoke, chocolate, whiskty, oak, figs, raisins, dades, some hops, some fruits. Some alcohol showing, but in a good way, hay notes, licorice and almond. A beer with a long lovely warming feeling and then it turns into a smooth balanced chocolate finish with whisky oak, and some figs. Huge body and with a perfect mouthfeel. Absolutley wonderful!!!

UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 Bottle split with Andrew and streets. A gift to streets for the interview. Pours a thick, pitch brown body with great golden brown lacing. Aroma is pure perfection - notes ofsweet Bourbon, oak, rich chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel lives up to the hype of the aroma. Probably the best barrel-aged beer I’ve ever had. Notes of rich, dark chocolate, Bourbon, wood, and sweet vanilla bean.

Milestone #1000. What better way to cross into beer god status but with my favorite brewery, home town beer, and now my #1 beer. An honor to have made it this far into craft beer appreciation. The Rare beer bottled # 8,252... Dark thick creamy pour into a snifter glass, with some brown thin head like the original BCS. Aromas of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Taste is phenomenal, outstanding chocolate & bourbon taste well balanced and long lasting (10-20 seconds after taste). Mouthfeel is the richest beer I’ve ever had, twice as much as the original BCS. Finish is smooth and lasting. Overall well balance and a gem. Earns the title of the best beer I’ve ever had and worth the hype. The quality of this piece of work doesn’t have a price tag, well worth it for me and deserving of the $42 price.

Fortunately this beer lived up to its hype. Gorgeous and bountiful nose of bourbon and sweet vanilla upon opening. Pours a gorgeous black with nice tan head. Thick but not off-putting mouthfeel. Initial hints of bourbon transitioning into a slightly burnt coffee taste finally ending with those sweet hints of vanilla. pleasant flavors linger for a minute on the palate. Very delicious beer.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2012 100th Imperial Stout rating. Pours a pitch black color with a nice tan head. Aroma is super complex, I get lots of barrel character, lots of bourbon, oak, vanilla, coconut, bourbon soaked raisins, roasted malt, prunes, dark fruits, coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco, cocoa nibs, dark caramel, molasses and fudge. The flavor follows the nose with tons of barrel character, the bourbon, oak, vanilla, coconut, bourbon soaked raisins, prunes, roasted malt, coffee, dark fruits, tobacco, cocoa nibs, dark caramel, fudge, molasses and dark chocolate. Wow this is soooooo complex!! The body is full with a sticky and creamy mouth feel. By far the best Imperial Stout I have had, and probably one of my all time favorite beers!
