On draft at Rare Day 2015. Smell is slight vanilla/cinnamon notes but mostly whiskey overpowering the rest. Dark brown with brown caramel head. Flavor is so hard to distinguish after so much BCS. This has a notable burn at the finish but is initially smooth.

From notes. Enjoyed at the Great Taste of the Midwest on August 08. The pour is dark black with a dark khaki cap of head and no lace to be found. The aroma is spicy. No doubt from the rye, but it was surprising, nonetheless. There is the typical BCBS flavors but the rye adds a little spicy kick that I wasn’t expecting. It does draw way from the regular notes of chewy molasses, a great vanilla, strong dark fruits and a great oak. The flavor is the same. Good, creamy, but strangely spicy. It’s just like the regular BCBS with a spice in the aroma and the flavor that takes a little away from the brilliance that it could be. The mouth feel is excellent, as expected, with a good carbonation, thick and delightful. The finish is spicy rye and it is a little deterrent when comparted to the regular. Great beer though.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2015 Sample at Great Taste of the Midwest. Aroma is a lot like regular, with more booze. Appearance is black, thick, brown head. Taste is sweet malt, barrel, hot, vanilla, marshmallow. Mouthfeel is hot, thick, great carbonation. Overall, it’s too boozy for my liking, and the worst of the variants. That said, still very good.

Sample pour at GI Sunday Funday. Similar to the original but a bit less on the vanilla and coconut side and slightly boozier. Pours pitch black, no head, no lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, roasted cacao nibs, dark chocolate, mild coconut. Flavor is immediate bourbon rye but gives way to an amazing complex flavor bomb... Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, back to chocolate then some coconut then back to bitter chocolate with some good bitterness sneaking through right at the end with the alcohol warning. Fantastic.

From bottle at Big Beers in Vail, CO 2015. Two year aged version. Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and great lacing. Big coconut, brown sugar, rich dark caramel, toffee, light bourbon, some raisins and wood in the aroma. Taste is Big chocolate and coffee, maple syrup, brown sugar and coconut - very rich and decadent - figs, toffee, and bourbon. Thick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Seriously tasty shit!

Pour on tap at FOBAB 2014, 2 year aged version, thick oily black pour with creamy dark caramel colored head, aroma brought notes of thick whiskey, bourbon, milkshake type notes, nice cocoa powder, coffee, roast in there into a bit of molasses, vanilla, and oak. Taste is a mix of cocoa, coconut, vanilla, whiskey, slight spice out of the rye portion into some bourbon, oak, slight yeasty notes with a hint of roast, finishing thick, sweet, slightly dry.

Tap: 2-year Templeton Barrel Aged. Blacker than squid’s ink, just like regular old BCBS. No head on this one. Barely a trace of foam at all. Dessert-like aroma of huge, dense fudge, burnt brown sugar & caramel, molasses, heavy barrel vanillin, & thick maple syrup (like from the barrel as well). Strong bourbon component with a plentiful hand of spicy oak. Similar flavor; large piles of dark chocolate, fudge batter, & caramelized brown sugar are jettisoned into your senses. Spicy bourbon, charred wood, maple syrup, molasses, & bitter cacao nibs lead into a semisweet outro that lingers like a Riesen candy. Loads of fudgey caramel in the finish with a nice, warming bourbon drizzle. This is goddamn delicious.

Draft. Honestly I had this side by side with the propreiters and this one is terirble, just pure booze and some sugar and vanilla flavors.
