4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Two or three years ago, when you could actually find this in four packs and bombers on the shelf at some stores, I was not yet at BBA anything in my beer geekery. Ah to be cracking one of those now, with a little age on it.... Instead, Iíve not been able to find any until the 2011 release. I had to put my nose to my snifter several times to confirm all of the aromas it is pulling. It found caramel, chocolate, chocolate, coffee, toast, resin, butterscotch, licorice, soy sauce, vanilla, and woody notes. The ale pours as deep as brown can be without actually being black, with a decent brown head that fades to a slight ring quickly. A sip reveals medium sweetness that turns into slight bitterness and lingering umami as it rolls across my tongue. Its body is full with a thick, creamy, and sticky texture. The carbonation is very soft, but serves this ale well by gently pushing over your tongue. One of the finest beers I have ever had.

2011 vintage. Pitch black pour with a milk chocolate colored head that is gone in a flash. Smell is intoxicating with bourbon, raisins and chocolate. Taste is a mix chocolate, bourbon, raisins, and alcohol. Really an amazing beer. Thanks to breaks808 for this great beer!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Jet black with small tan head, that dissipates quickly but hangs around the edge. Oaky and bourbon hits the nose throughout. Sweet maltiness at first, with a kick of bourbon/alcohol in the middle. It ends off with a bitterness similar to dark chocolate.

2009 Bottle A year later... Same appearance and score. The smell has mellowed. The alcohol is less intense. The alcohol in the taste has lessened as well. I like it more, but I canít score it any higher. It smoothed out in the year. Iíll see what it does in another two years next time. --- 2009 Bottle Poured into a snifter. Looks like tar in color. A tan head barely covers the surface and quickly dissipates to holding on the edges of the glass. From a foot away I can smell it. Strong alcohol and oak. Up closer it is molasses, caramel, vanilla and port. Taste like alcohol, roasted and burnt malt, vanilla, charred wood at the back of the mouth, a light grabbing bitterness at the end. Very rich flavor. It looks like tar and has the same viscosity. It could stop a bullet. Hardly any carbonation. Very well done. I tend to not enjoy the barrel aged beers as much as others. Usually it is because of an overpowering alcohol taste, however, this one balances out the alcohol very well. It is still very rich and a slow drinker; but it is quite complex and drinkable.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
The aroma is very strong. Lots of bourbon and alcohol in the aroma. The appearance is like used motor oil. Just pitch black. The taste is very sweet and a very strong bourbon flavor. There is a little burn from the alcohol but that mellows as it ages. The palate is the best part of this beer. It is a very thick stout. Overall BCS is outstanding. One of the best beers there is.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black pour with a faint bit of brown head that quickly went away. You can smell the bourbon right away. Noticed a hint of chocolate. Taste has hints of chocolate and some smokiness and bourbon again. Thick and smooth.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with a red/tan head which disappears quickly.. More carbonation initially but that also goes quickly. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, toffee and bourbon. Similar flavours plus molasses. Viscous, leaving tears running down the glass. You know this is seriously strong.
