This beer was bought in Chicago by friend as a Christmas gift. Pours black with almost non-existent brown head. Aroma of bourbon, coffee, vanilla. Strong vanilla flavor fades alcohol, smoke, wood replacing it. Chocolatey malts balanced with vanilla from the bourbon is very interesting. Alcohol taste is strong, but not unpleasant. Palate is thick, creamy. Delicious beer, very complex, but not something I plan to drink all the time. I really like this more than Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout because despite the ABV being higher the alcohol burn is more subdued. I plan to age a bottle 1-2 years and review again.

2012 bottle poured into a tulip. Complete darkness with the smallest chocolate brown head. Big nose full of bourbon, dark chocolate and vanilla. Canít remember another beer smelling this great. Taste follows. Great bourbon character that is silky smooth with dar chocolate, vanilla , malt and a subtle sweetness. Very balanced considering the abv. Great brew

2012 vintage. Pours a deep dark thick black brown with a small brown head. Aroma is a rich dark roasted chocolate malt, dark dried fruit of raisins plums, has strong sweet bourbon barrel alcohol essence with some wood barrel undertones. Taste is a sweet rich dark bourbon alcohol flavor with a bit woodsy notes, some chocolate and dark fruit raisin, plums, some vanilla notes, roasted malt and bitterness on the end. Palate is a full rich creamy viscous body, leaves a bit of an oily resin mouth feel, but smooth going down. Seems a bit heavy on the bourbon though, a bit overpowering on the alcohol. Leaves a long lingering flavorful sweet bourbon alcohol flavor and a bit of woodsy vanilla notes on the end. This is definitely one to sip and share on a cold winter eve.

Thick dark dark brown almost black. No affect from room light. Scents of dark chocolate vanilla and bourbon. Milk thick smooth creamy nutty taste then the bourbon kick comes in with force. Sweet but with a bourbon bite.

Bottle share, thanks, Stein! Aroma is dark and boozy. Appearance is black with a brown head. Taste is bourbon. There is hints of dark fruit. The finish is dark malt with a bourbon sweetness. Overall, a good beer. A little strong, but hey, doesn't like gettin a good buzz going?

Pure bourbon glory. I popped a fresh bottle and poured it. The nose is big on the bourbon and hot..nice. The taste is out of this world bourbon glory. Some people age this to "mellow" out the hot bourbon fire but they are fools. If you consume more than 1 bottle in a sitting your shards will be black as the deep ocean and smell like bourbon. Great beer, highly collectable.

Like nothing you'll ever try.
Smelled beautiful and had very full flavour.
You won't want too many though! Not at 15%

Full flavor, rich and delicious. The 2012 release was the best beer I've ever had to that point; still true two years later.

On tap at Avery Strong Ale Festival. Appearance: slight redish brown head, black color, good lacing. Aroma: bourbon, chocolate, oak, caramel. Palate: alcohol heat, full body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste: swee, slight woody bitterness. Overall, one of my favorites of the event.
