COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2014 2012 12oz from a 4-pack from Bacchus liquor Kalamazoo. Pitch black thick pour into snifter. Had a brown sheen reminiscent of a dark stained mahogany. Head was very dense and dark brown, inch high at first and settled to an eighth inch within a minute. Sweet and malty scent-foremost aroma of brown sugar, perhaps some molasses and complex fruits/berries like date, raisins and currants as well (a little bourbon-like nose tingle too). Thick, syrupy mouth feel, very little carbonation. Bitterness at first, strong , almost spicy flavors/feelings of bourbon with oak, vanilla and strong cherry or raisin just slightly. Strong smoky vanilla and bourbon finish that did not leave my mouth very dry. Canít wait to try one of this vintage cellared. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 Vintage Look: pours a dark black. Very thick. Jet black. Dark brown head that fades extremely quickly. Smell: heavy alcohol. Bourbon. Fudge. Chocolate. Vanilla. Soy sauce. Taste: great chocolate flavor! Fudge. Coffee. Whiskey. Very hot alcohol taste. Feel: very thick mouth feel. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Overall: awesome beer. Love the heavy fudge notes. Hope some time can weaken the hot alcohol flavor. Love this beer. First drank: Mom & Dads 11/28/14

chocolate and vanilla. Caramel, syrup. Velvety, gets sticky as it warms. Enough carbonation to hold it together.†

Appearance: Jet black with tan head Aroma: Now this is what beer should smell like. Where do I start? Incredible bourbon aroma with vanilla, chocolate and butter. Taste: Wonderful smooth velvety texture and bourbon flavor permeates the entire experience. Fresh vanilla beans, hazelnut and buttered rum. Overall: The mothership of imperial stouts. Worth the wait and waking up early on Black Friday. Just an incredible experience for bourbon barrel lovers

2014 bottle poured at home. Wow! I waited in a line this morning (Black Friday) for a chance to try this one; it definitely did not disappoint. Pours a dark molasses black color with minimal head which dissipated soon after pouring. Aroma is mellow sweetness with bourbon undertones. Taste is amazing. Smooth and slightly sweet, with immediate flavor burst of toasted coconut, chocolate, toffee, oatmeal, gentle coffee notes, with slight bourbon finish. This may be the best beer I've ever tasted! It is SO smooth and drinkable and coats the mouth with flavor that lingers forever. Well Done! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Best imperial stout I've ever tasted, and it isn't even close. Quite possibly my new favorite beer.

Nice malt aroma with heavy bourbon aroma to the nose. Pick up way more bourbon on first taste, extremely smooth finish on the palate. Sneaky good and dangerous.

Draft. Pours black with thin white head that dissipates quickly. Malty sweet bourbon aroma over mild carbonation. Very substantial mouthfeel. Superior complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled 10/16/14. Aroma is rich bourbon barrel, smoke, leather, booze, some dark fruit and a hint of black licorice. It has a unique, almost cigar-like quality to it. Very strong, masculine scent that can be detected as soon as the bottle is opened. Appearance is an absolute 5. Jet black and thick with a cap of dark brown foam that recedes to nothing instantly. Tastes slightly sweet and has alcohol heat from the bourbon. It also has strong oak characteristics and everything mentioned in the aroma, to a lesser extent. Great complex taste; the only knock on it is the booze burn, but some aging would take care of that and make it perfect. Palate is a 5+. Thick, smooth and silky. Overall, I think this formula just keeps getting better. This is probably the highest rating I have ever given.
