COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2013 2012 vintage, served in snifter. Iím not into bourbon at all but I thought this beer was delicious. Black colour, small brown head. Huge aroma of bourbon, caramel, chocolate, molasses, dark fruit and alcohol. Sweet taste of bourbon, milk chocolate and caramel. Alcohol isnít hidden well at all but thatís no problem with this beer. Some bitterness in the aftertaste which lasted forever. Syrupy and creamy texture, love it!

2014 12 oz. bottle purchased from our local beverage market. Coffee black with tan head. Aroma is coffee, leather, wheat, chocolate, and bourbon. Silky smooth taste with profiles of dark chocolate, coffee nibs, roasted sweetness. Slight booziness. Very good stout. No longer needed my jacket after drinking. Would like to let a bottle age a few years.

Bottle, as a gift from the Dennoman, vintage 2012. Pours deep brown to black with a dark brown hue, quickly dissapating head. Intense and rather intruive bourbon scent, lots of vanilla, coconut, Medium body, immediate alcohol attack, little sweet undertone, but hell... it buuuurns. Taste is dark chocolate, vanilla, toffee. Frankly... I am not impressed.

2012 Bottle at home from drinkstore. Pours deep oily black. Tan head which disappears. Aroma is coffee, oak, whiskey, earth, tannin, leather. The barrel is in this beer. Not too much on the bourbon side which is good. Flavour is so full. This is a huge beer. Creamy, lactose, coffee, whiskey flavour. A syrup dry sweet alcohol finish. Little to no carbonation. ABV is there but managed well. Will sip for a while. Wow.

2013 bottle.Smells like bourbon, tastes like bourbon. Iíd like a little bit more of the bitterness to come through. Tastes like bourbon, oak, tobacco, leather. A little too sweet. Not sure if it is worth the hype. Very good nonetheless

2013 bottle from trade. This is an amazing beer. The high alcohol is disguised by incredible flavors. Very dark pour with a small dark head. Virtually no lacing. Aroma of molasses, chocolate, toffee, and wood. Bourbon cask, cola, maple, ginger, and chocolate. Very enjoyable.

One of the most complex beers I ever have tasted. Very heavy! Long and distinct taste. I have only one bottle left from 2012 to be shared at a special occasion.

Bottle, 2012 vintage. Pours black with dark brown tints. A brown head disappears fairly quickly. The aroma is rich with roasted malt, bourbon, woody notes, caramel, liqourice. A bit boozy but it is 15%. The flavour is well balanced with a good amount of sweetness to roasted notes. It is heavy on liqourice and molasses and I donít find it particularly unique although the barrel character is impressive. The body is medium to full and the texture is oily. A lovely stout.

Dark brown, fairly opaque, tan head, low/moderate carbonation. Aroma of nutty-sweet malt, toffee, ripe dark fruit, leather, bourbon barrel. Flavor: huge, thick maltiness with toffee, burnt sugar, plums, raisins, some leathery age, big bourbon character, vanilla, a light smokiness, nutty and toasty notes. Huge mouthfeel. A big, chewy, syrupy barleywine with loads of dark fruit and burnt sugar/molasses-like sweetness. Definitely on the syrupy side, but Iíll forgive that because of the great complexity. A sipper.

Poured from bottle with a nice dark chocolate color. Aromas of sweet caramel with a smooth mouth feel and a nice balanced alcohol finish. Superb beer full of complexity and balance.

Easily the best dark beer I ever had. Just the smell is amazing. When I first had it, we drank other beers in between taking sips to make it last longer, just so we could still smell it.
