COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Had this one side-to-side with the Rare, Vanilla and the Coffee Stout. Look: the beer pours a dark black color with a very small brown head. Smell: Chocolate, malts, coffee and some bourbon. Taste: Sweet chocolate, coffee, bourbon with a nice bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium-low carbonation, medium bodied. Overall: Nice beer, just not as good as the rare and the coffee.

Kolsvart färg, tunt skumlager, doft av soya, otroligt komplex smak men fantastiskt god ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Excellent bourbon stout. My only complaint is that it is almost just a little too boozy. It very much is like drinking a glass of bourbon. Canít wait to try on a cold winterís night

Heavy bourbon and vanilla smell. Taste is a very boozy stout with bourbon, vanilla, and light chocolate. Thick but too boozy for my tastes.

12 oz bottle, one of four from a $20 4 pack, hope itís worth the hype and $$ price tag.
Black, with ruby edges, nice thick tan head that recedes like a nitro stout head.
Big boozy bourbon aroma hits you first, but as it settles down, you get molasses, vanilla, oak, liquorice. Flavor is equally complex. Smooth, sweet, chocolaty entry, leads to molasses, vanilla, oak, tobacco, liquorice, bourbon, caramel, smoke. High ABV is well hidden, but it starts to lean a little too much to the sweet side before the glass is finished. But yeah, Iíd buy it again. Note to Greg Hall.There are several cigars that would stand up to and pair well with this beer. If you are going with cigars legal in the U.S, Padron Anniversario, Rocky Patel, Alec Bradley Black Market, Montecristo White label, Camacho, Fuente Sungrown, Ashton VSG. As far as the not legal in the U.S for now Cuban cigars, try Partagas serie D no 3, Bolivar Royal Corona. anything Montecristo.

Not my favorite bourbon barrel aged beer. Found it it be to far tpped to the sweet side flavor wise. Palate was smooth and slightly oily. Medium full body. Aroma was dominated by sweet bourbon with some chocolate notes. expected morefrom this highly hyped beer. Prefer the coffee version by far.

As much as I hate to say it about hyped-up beers, this one really deserves the hype! Nose is wonderfully oaky, and richly malty without showing much roast or coffee. There is a cordial cherry in dark chocolate aroma that comes through strong in the flavor. Unlike most stouts of this caliber, there isnít a significant roastiness. This really is a dessert beer. Some sherry-like oxidation is present that compliments it beautifully. Even after only a year in the bottle, it is really smooth and the flavors have blended almost perfectly, masking the 14% ABV. As big as the flavors are, the mouthfeel is nice and not sticky. A lingering aftertaste is expected for a 14%, but it ends without coating your mouth, inviting sip after sip.

Schwarz, kein Schaum. Unfassbar lecker.

bottle @ home. 2012 vintage. Pours a brown fizzy head that quickly dissipates above a pitch black liquid. Sweet vinous aroma with oak, bourbon, vanilla, licorice, some higher alcohols, dark fruits, raisins, caramel. Big mouth feel and a heavily sweet palate with long duration, almost cloying with flavors of oak, tobacco, dark chocolate cake, raisins, dates, vanilla, licorice, bourbon, ash, honey, caramel. Aftertaste has booze/whiskey, honey and chocolate.
