COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2014 From keg on special Goose Island night. 10oz pour into snifter. Extremely complex beer. Notes of vanilla and other florals reminiscent of lavender. Sweet, but not cloingly (sp) so. Dark, but not thick. A true sipper. Not my favorite taste, but an amazing beer nonetheless. UPDATED: 2013 version, vanilla, molasses and alcohol nose. Half finger of dark foam, solid black with alcohol "oil" on top. Starts with molasses and raisins (dark fruit) up front, finishes with dark cherry and an alcohol tingle. Super smooth, super complex, and an absolute joy to experience. I enjoyed ?13 over ?12. UPDATE: itís the same as last year, and thatís a great thing!

BIF project. Pours pitch black, no head, no lacing. Aroma is divine... bourbon, vanilla, roasted cacao nibs, dark chocolate, mild coconut, intense roasted coffee. Flavor is immediate bourbon but gives way to an amazing complex flavor bomb... Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, back to chocolate then some coconut then back to bitter chocolate with some good bitterness sneaking through right at the end with the alcohol warning. Fantastic.

Tasted a 2014 bottle on 4-12-2015. Wow, it has a huge bourbon barrel flavor! Tons of vanilla, dried coconut and dried fruits with a super silky mouthfeel. It's easily a top 10 bourbon in my opinion. It deserves to be alongside other great stouts such as the Firestone 18th, KBS, and Old Rasputin Barrel Aged. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pretty amazing. Pours thick black with dark brown gead. Smells of soy sauce, vanilla, cola, chocolate. Tons of bourbon flavors. Coconut, vanilla, leather. Only aged 7 months, so this has tons of booziness. It is so warm in my chest. Mouth feel is almost sickly sweet, but sip this one and youíll be fine. Really complex stuff

Fantastic Brew! Pours black thick with beige thin head, creamy. Wonderful port wine aroma, black currants and wild cherries. Velvety on mouth, with vanilla bourbon kick. Marvelous! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The perfect bourbon barrel stout. Smells of bourbon, sweet oaky vanilla, black licorice, cocoa, and some caramel. Very thick on the palate, the bourbon is the main focus but you also get some coffee, honey and vanilla. A bit more whiskey heat on the back end and leaves a chocolate taste on the tongue. Overall itís an awesome beer, the king of bourbon barrel stouts. One of the must try beers for any beer lover

Must have had 2013 back then. Just updating this app. I recall enjoying it a lot and thinking the bourbon was balanced well. It didnít over power anything.

[2013] 355ml bottle. Pitch black with a thin ring of brown foam. Flavors are roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, smoke, oak and bourbon. Pleasant alcohol warmth, but never too boozy. Full body, soft carbonation, creamy texture.
