Beerman6686 (567), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a dark black with a nice tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, licorice, alcohol and some espresso. Taste is very sticky sweet dark chocolate with a nice coffee finish with the alcohol present the whole time.
stefanje (483), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 12 oz bottle from zinister. Pours a dark black with a small tan head that soon fades to nothing. The aroma is big with bourbon whiskey and dark fruits. The flavor is likewise dominated by bourbon whiskey (close to Old Grand Dad), also filling in the sides are licorice plums, and dates. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is exceptionally long with lingering whiskey. Overall: I’m discovering that I am a big fan of whiskey barrel aged ales, they just sit right with me. unclemike (258), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jul 19, 2008 thanks Acknud Black as tar and as smooth as silk. The first thing that hits you is the bourbon aroma with hints of dark chocolate and roasted malt. I’m no fan of bourbon, but it turned out I had no reason to fear. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and coconut get things started, but that just scratches the surface of flavors. Probably the most complex beer I’ve ever enjoyed. Finish is smooth and smoky with nice alcohol warming the throat. You have to give it up to Goose Island on this one, the beer gods were smiling when they conjured up BCS. Truly a masterpiece. sleepylopes (264), New York, USA Jul 13, 2008 it looks like some crazy use motor oil black and viscus its pours slow. molasses in January. no mater how hard i tried i could get no head i poured higher and higher but still nothing. mells like a candy store or pastiari in a 5 alarm fire. sweet black malt vanilla chared wood liquid smoke worthers origionals. its smooth and rich but a bit hot and syrupy. chocolate burbon liquor cordials. eje (1), , New York, USA does not count Jul 12, 2008 2007 12.0 coutesy of Whole Foods beer room. No head, strong (strong) bourbon flavors, mainly left in the back of your mouth, but delicate espresso flavors as well. SuzyGreenberg (799), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 10, 2008 12 oz. bottle - 2007 vintage; thanks to pepsican for the trade; pours thin and oily black; almost no head; slight chocolate haze around the edges leaving residue on the glass; boozy across the board; drinks sweet and slightly hot; woody vanilla in the flavors; bourbon is overpowering and for me, doesn’t come close to something like KBS; pretty disappointing
