COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editor’s Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. It’s essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Aromas of coffee and chocolate, some other complexities present but not overpowering. Absolutely pitch black, no light shines through, even at the very edges, only complaint is no discernibke head. Tastes sweet initially, then the bourbon kicks in, and finally the heat joins the party. This beer is 14+% and is not afraid to let you know it. Surprisingly drinkable with a body not unlike warm maple syrup. Quite possibly the best beer I have tasted, tossup between this, KBS and Backwoods Bastards (bourbon lover? Me? Not a chance.)

Poured from growler. Pitch black tar-like pour with no head. Vanilla, American oak, cream, coffee, dark fruits. Need a spoon to drink. Wow. Smooth and silky but with depth and complexity. Hides the alcohol well with the big body until the liquid burns your stomach.

Appearance: Pours clear deep brown/black with good soapy beige head and lacing. aroma/taste notes: caramel, chocolate oak, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon and some smoke notes. palette: powerful aroma, low to medium carbonation, full body, notable caramel sweetness, average bitterness, long duration and an oily texture. Overall: Very tasteful and powerful bourbon stout.

Bottle, 2011. Pours black-brown with a small head, leaving fine residues on the glass. Licorice, caramel and roasted, almost smoky, tones in the nose. The taste is all bitter almonds, dried fruits, oak and vanilla. Fantastic. Oily, smooth and just a little bit of carbonation left. Not the best Bourbon County I’ve had. Still very good.

Flaska på begravningsbyrå Stockholm Svart kulör med ljusbrunt skum. Fantastiskt fin doft av vanilj fat och choklad. Söt smak med knäck, choklad, vanilj och torkad frukt.

Draft pitch dark black with almost no head. The aroma is amazing, vanilla chocolate very mellow. You can really taste the bourbon. Incredible how a 14.2% passes like silk through my throat. 2014 edition

Version 2013, bue en 2014. Tout est là. Chocolat, café, bourbon haut de gamme, grande complexité, rondeur excellente, effervescence parfaite. chaque gorgée est mémorable. Dans mon top 3, peut-être même 2.

This is pretty good although I prefer other bourbon county offerings. Coffee and barleywine are better

BIF project. Pours pitch black, no head, no lacing. Aroma is divine... bourbon, vanilla, roasted cacao nibs, dark chocolate, mild coconut, intense roasted coffee. Flavor is immediate bourbon but gives way to an amazing complex flavor bomb... Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, back to chocolate then some coconut then back to bitter chocolate with some good bitterness sneaking through right at the end with the alcohol warning. Fantastic.
