COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences seperates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

(2005 bottle) Aromas of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and a touch of smoke arise from this glass after the pour. It pours a thick black with just a tiny ring of tan head around the edge of the glass. Smooth creamy mouthfeel, flavors of dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and a touch of bourbon. Slight warming in the chest as this was swallowed. Truly an exceptional beer.

Iím fortunate to have found this elusive brew at my local beer store. Real high expectations so the anticipation was evident. Poured aggressively but no head and only a slight few bubbles of carbonation made it to the surface. Black as night and thick like molasses. The aroma had subtle hints of vanilla, licorice, phenol, wood, and of course bourbon. Taste was sweet, big and bold like the smell with maybe even raisins mixed about. Thick, creamy, and coated the palate beautifully. I must say I had my doubts since Iíve been let down before; but BCBS did not disappoint! I loved the experience and since itís a rather big beer it is a delightful sipping stout. Goose Island hit this aged brew right out of the park, awesome!

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured black, small brown head. Lots of bourbon on the nose combined with roasted malts wood and some caramel. Taste of bourbon (again), a bit of coffee and some malts. Awesome beer, extremely enjoyable.

From a bottle shared by jheath99. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy light brown head. Tastes like booze, strong raisin, very roasted malt, earthy, woody, tobacco, and light ash. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet roasted malt, booze, tobacco, woody, earthy, and lots of raisin.

2014 bottle. Rich black pour. Lots of vanilla, oak, and alcohol on the nose. Quite hot, burns on the way down. Great balance at something so large. Itís well worth the hype surrounding it.

Itís terribly hard to argue this is not a perfect beer... Because in a few years in a cellar it would be in 3-5 years. Let it warm and enjoy this sweet bourbon stout. This beer is as dark as oil, smelly, tasty, sweet.

Christmas day beer 2015, letís go. Deep black pour with a thin, tan head that hangs around. Burnt malts and bourbon assault the nose. This is damn well crafted beer. Alcohol is completely hidden and itís smooth all the way down. Flavor has a ton of roasted malt notes and some cocoa, as well as the woodiness of the bourbon barrels coming through. Definitely something to try at least once.

Bottled August 2013. 355ml, shared with friends in snifters. Very boozy, filled the room when opening. Pitch black, very little carbonation. Toffee malts, brown sugar and big bourbon flavour and burn. slightly out of balance. Would benefit from some time in the dark. Great introduction.

As advertised. Pitch black, little tan head that faded fast. So many aromas and flavors. Very surprised at the smoothness for ABV. Want to try the coffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at blend. 5 oz sampler w 2013, 2014, and barleywine. 2013 is very bold, with boubon. 2014 is less in your face, but a little less flavor. Depending on your mood, either would be better. 2014 would usually be my choice but i recognize the greatness of the 2013. Aroma bourbon, toasted malt. Taste brown sugar, coffee, bourbon of course. Good beers.
