Aroma of bourbon and very complex. The flavor is also full of bourbon, but also alcohol and prunes. Great beer and I have one more in my cellar.

the older BCBS are much smoother and sweeter. strong sweet bourbon flavor with a roasted malt backbone. no bite in this bad boy even at 15% alcohol. pours black with no head. smells of chocolate, coffee, and bourbon. one of the best stouts i have ever had.

This was an off year. Way too ash and soot tasting. Purchased from two stores. Normally a favorite, not this year.

4.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2014 Bottle at home, obtained in a trade with huskertan. Thanks! Pours opaque black, brown head dissipates quickly into a thin film. Aroma is faint bourbon, a bit of vanilla and licorice. Black coffee and hints of chocolate. Honestly a bit underwhelmed by the aroma. Taste is milk chocolate and coffee, transitions to mellow bourbon, licorice and a bit of fruit. Semi sweet with a bitter finish. As this warms the bourbon mellows a bit more and more of the barrel complexities come out, oak and vanilla. Palate is thick but silky smooth, a bit of alcohol detectable on the palate. Medium carbonation. This is a fantastic beer, and one of the best barrel aged beers I’ve had. There is quite a bit of hype, and there are definitely better imperial stouts out there but this is one I would drink time and time again. Got another 2014 in the cellar, excited to see how it develops over the next few years!

355 ml bottle, 2012 Vintage, 15 abv. Poured in to a Snifter. Pitch black with a thin, tanned head around the edge of the glass. Roasted aroma with dark malts, caramel, vanilla, bourbon barrel, ripe fruits and liqourice. Taste is sweet and roasted. Full body with an oily texture and a near flat carbonation. Long lasting dry and roasted finish with rich, dark malts and soft vanilla notes, chocolate. No sign of the 15 alcohol. Excellent Stout, really well balanced and a lovely barrel ageing.

Full bodied thick beer with a moderate sweetness and mild bitterness. Had it along with several other bourbon barrel aged and its up there with the best.

30.5.2014. 2012 version. Black, thick, no head. Sweet bourbon aroma with vanilla, oak. Flavour has plenty of roasted malts, coffee, some cigar(?), going towards bourbon, vanilla, oak. Also as can be expected with this abv, alcohol is present and warms a lot. Heavy and delicious stuff, deserves time.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle from 2014 Batch of 13.8% alcohol. Appearance is black, thick, oily. Smell is of bourbon, roast, chocolate, but mostly bourbon. Taste is a blast of bourbon alcohol that transitions into a delicious chocolate, roasted stout. This bottle tasted less boozy than the previous times I’ve had it on tap this year. I don’t know if it’s this particular batch that tastes smoother than the other which was 14.4% ABV but it sure seemed so. If you’re not a huge fan of bourbon barrel beers steer clear because this brings the barrel front and center. Delicious!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
BOD 8/29/14. Pours dark as a starless night. Almost no head, but being barrel aged, this is acceptable.
Tremendous nose led off by bourbon. Underneath are dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and hints of dark fruit (plum) and oak.
Heavy full bodied with a texture that goes beyond creamy to the point of being thick. Above normal carbonation with effervescence from the middle on. Palate perfection.
The flavor profile is World Class. This is quite intense in terms of bourbon and alcohol and results in the complexity being slightly muted by these intensities. Balance is reasonable, all things considered, as the other flavors pop in the middle. It begins with bourbon over a rich caramel and chocolate sweetness. As the bourbon fades, alcohol comes to the forefront. In the middle, the alcohol flavor masking effect fades and the complexity of this stout becomes discernible. Waves of vanilla, sweet chocolate and slight plum cascade over an oak background. The finish is a slow fade of sweet caramel and vanilla over a receding oak. The finish leaves that burn at the back of throat, an astringent alcohol pucker and a touch of sweet caramel and chocolate.

Couleur d’un noir profond avec un col brun mince mais résistant. Arome très complexe de café, chocolat noir, vanille, alcool, bois, pain grillé. A boire lentement. Une explosion de saveur, une très bonne imperial stout!
