Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it's a great cigar beer, but I haven't yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU's 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 is listed at 13%

2007 from the bottle. Rating #100. Pours a very pretty pitch black with a thin but creamy tan head. The the bourbon notes in the aroma are pretty intense, but pair nicely with the chocolate and coffee present. Also some charred oaky notes. The flavor is also excellent. Lots of bourbon up front, followed by vanilla, molasses, burnt malts, coffee, chocolate and smoke. The mouthfeel is perfect. Simple as that. Although bourbon infused beer is not exactly my cup of tea, this is a fantastic beer.

12 oz bottle from zinister. Pours a dark black with a small tan head that soon fades to nothing. The aroma is big with bourbon whiskey and dark fruits. The flavor is likewise dominated by bourbon whiskey (close to Old Grand Dad), also filling in the sides are licorice plums, and dates. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is exceptionally long with lingering whiskey. Overall: I’m discovering that I am a big fan of whiskey barrel aged ales, they just sit right with me.

thanks Acknud Black as tar and as smooth as silk. The first thing that hits you is the bourbon aroma with hints of dark chocolate and roasted malt. I’m no fan of bourbon, but it turned out I had no reason to fear. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and coconut get things started, but that just scratches the surface of flavors. Probably the most complex beer I’ve ever enjoyed. Finish is smooth and smoky with nice alcohol warming the throat. You have to give it up to Goose Island on this one, the beer gods were smiling when they conjured up BCS. Truly a masterpiece.

2007 12.0 coutesy of Whole Foods beer room. No head, strong (strong) bourbon flavors, mainly left in the back of your mouth, but delicate espresso flavors as well.

12 oz. bottle - 2007 vintage; thanks to pepsican for the trade; pours thin and oily black; almost no head; slight chocolate haze around the edges leaving residue on the glass; boozy across the board; drinks sweet and slightly hot; woody vanilla in the flavors; bourbon is overpowering and for me, doesn’t come close to something like KBS; pretty disappointing
