COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla,carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that itís a great cigar beer, but I havenít yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall;

Editorís Note: Baudoinia Fulton & Wood Series offering (And the Low Storage entry from FoBAB 2012) is simply Bourbon County Stout aged in the same barrels. It has been alted as it offers no different recipe or barrel type simply the presence of a distillers fungus on the barrels that adds no distinct characteristic to the beer from the fungus itself except for possible oxygen exposure changes. While Brewers Intent indicates that they consider it a new beer, no true distinction aside from this oxidation amount and possible aging time differences separates the beers. Itís essentially a single barrel Bourbon County version something we have always treated as regular Bourbon County Stout in the past.

Wow. This was truly a feat in fine craftsmanship. This beer is truly one of the best Iíve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. First of all, the aroma is amazing. It was sweet like maple syrup and had hints of roasted almonds. The taste is on another plane, unmatched by beer for mere mortals. The stout definitely shown through, with its deep, roasted flavor. However, the bourbon-aged barrels in which this beverage is brewed, leaves a taste that is a mix of vanilla, caramel and heaven. This beer is incredible.

Shit tons of booze on the nose, lots of sweet dark roast, dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon Darker fruit also. Pours black with a non lasting thin tan head that settles out to nothing. Flavors of super sweet boozey bourbon, dark chocolate, roasted malts, wood, vanilla. Big boozy warming imperial stout. A solid BA imperial stout, even though this years version was kind of weak.

250ml bottle as Monks Cafe Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, from trade with Omhper! Many many many thanks chap. Pours black with fast-receding head. Aroma is rich, decadent, booze-ridden chocolate cake. Taste is tar slick & oily. Smooth, bourbon-fused but not off-puttingly boozy. The bourbon merely radiates with itís smooth vanilla and almond tones as the dark malts simmer in the background. This is serious stuff.

Roasted coffee and bourbon notes waft from this obsidian beauty, which seems like the reason for Spiegelau's stout glass to exist. Rich mouthfeel, as light bubbliness plays out caramels to match the velvet burn. This is an amazing beer, well suited to lovers of Founder's seminal Breakfast Stout or Firestone Walker's Velvet Merlin. It's not a revelation, it's just good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thick mouthfeel. Motor oil flow with brown head. Burnt sugar aroma. Doesnít come off as overly sweet. Not boozy at all. Trail is raspberry and dark fruit. That said, I read some of this batch was contaminated, and I may be getting some of that -- maybe some rubber cement.

A 1 pint .9 fl oz (500ml) bottle with a bottled on date of 22nd October 2015, poured into a snifter glass. It poured an extremely dark dark brown colour with a reddish hue on the sides. Dark tanned head was very thin and did not last long and there was some thin spotty lacing. Rich rich aromas full of bourbon, oak, caramel, salted chocolate and vanilla. Tastes much like the aromas. It was full of bourbon, oak, caramel, salted chocolate and vanilla. Stunning, heavenly goodness. Full bodied, thick motor oil like richness. Low carbonation. Nice light burn as it goes down. OverallÖ Wow, this was amazingÖ a brilliant sipper. Even drinking it 3 months in, aromas, taste and feel were already wonderful. It should develop more complexity with a year or two of aging, which is what Iím going to do with the rest of my bottles.

Black color. Dark, tan head that collapses rather quickly. Freckled lacing. Alcohol is really coming out in the aroma. Woody. Smokey. Vanilla. Chocolate. Blackberries. Charcoal. Creamy texture. Light carbonation. Taste like a smoked briscuit. Hickory and maybe some mesquite. Long smokey finish. Alcohol is more hidden in the taste than the aroma. Heavy body. This beer seems to stick with you well after the drink. Tasty.

Heavy black licorice smell. Dark in color as with any traditional imperial stout. Light bourbon or smoke flavor on the tongue, coffee and dense smoke on the back of the tongue. Wonderful. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark as night with low carbonation. The sniff test. Nice smoke, oak and bourbon aromas. From first to last sip. Viscous (10W30) chocolate, vanilla and tart cherry explodes in the mouth. As expected, alcohol is warming and provides balance. I was going to let this bottle age but Iím glad I didnít. Fantastic!
