4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark brown with no head and no lacing. Aroma is full of vanilla, caramel and bourbon (but a lot less intense than the regular, at least that is what I remember). Taste is indeed ridden with vanilla, chocolate (the milk variety) and light coffee/roast. Mouthfeel is silky and hot but a lot less than I expected. Intense and great, this is another hit in the serie!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
pours very dark brown with a small medium dark beige head, some retention and lacing. very chocolatey, milk chocolate, white chocolate - well dosed amount of vanilla, raisins, burnt caramel, resin and hint of ashes, molasses, although not that cloying. fizzy carbonation, medium to full body - oily and almost syrupy, sweet and bitter coffee finish. very good.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle (22 oz). From Yannick (biere_froide), thanks! Dark reddish brown with small quickly disappearing reddish beige/brown head that leaves a light ring of brown foam. Aroma is a burst of vanilla (not overwhelming though) along with fruity notes, fudge, roasted malt and bourbon. Taste is moderately sweet (a little more than "moderately", but never cloying) with tons of vanilla, fudge, dark fruits, bourbon and roasted malt. Nice alcohol warming, but never overly boozy (especially considering the 13% abv). Full body. Low fizzy carbonation. Smooth, but sirupy mouthfeel. Super complex and extremely vanilla forward for a beer that is 3 years old. Even though there’s a lot of Vanilla, the beer is never cloying. Great balance. This is my third best from the Bourbon County series behind Rare and the regular one and before the Coffee, Bramble Rye and Cherry Rye versions. Great beer!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rating #1900! Thanks to Renny for busting this out. Massively sweet and luxurious beer, tooth-staining residual sugar, over-the-top vanilla blasting the nose. Flavor is less vanilla-forward than the aroma. Body is a little thinner or maybe hollower on the palate than the other BCS variants I’ve had. But those are minor quibbles. This beer stomped.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Trade bottle #0855 on 11/05/10. If you like vanilla, this beer is for you; good Madagascar type vanilla not some silly chemical flavoring. Pretty still pour with no real head. Aroma is definitely vanilla but also a little coffee and dark fruit. Big sweet stout up front and then the finish is rich vanilla and dark chocolate. 13 ABV? Seriously no hint of the booze. Tasty.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home with friends. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small brown head and decent lacing. Big roasty, dark chocolate, light vanilla, cinnamon, somewhat oaky, nutmeg, molasses, brown sugar, caramelly, and bourbony aroma. Taste is rich dark chocolate, coconut, sweet vanilla, oaky, sherry, toffee, caramel, slight oxidation, and brown sugar. Slick/syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Really nice stout and has held up nicely over time.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted blind at a horizontal including Vanilla, Rare, Cherry Rye, Bramble Rye, Coffee and an ’09 Bomber. Poured into a snifter at approx 55 degrees. Reviewed from blind tasting notes.
A- Pours with essentially no head whatsoever, looks thick and viscous. No carbonation apparent.
S- You can smell some vanilla on the nose as well as some dark fruit and caramel. Some bourbon as well.
T- Tastes of caramel, bourbon, some cherry and oak as well. Tons of chocolate with a very minimal amount of vanilla.
M- This had the thickest, most rich feel of the 5 we tasted. Like an oil slick in your mouth. Very little drying quality, but enough to balance the sweetness from the malt and vanilla.
O- This was the 1st in our lineup to taste. The vanilla was certainly not as apparent as we had expected from other vanilla beers (BAVDL and others) so it was a little underwhelming. Our group at first thought this could be the ’09 bomber, but ended up going back and switching it to vanilla once we tasted all 5. The nose and thick/richness were the parts that made it clear this was the vanilla, although it definitely wasn’t there in the taste.

Very good. Slightly syrupy. Really enjoyed this alongside the other BCBS beers.
