Bottle procured from the Microbar, Manchester. Black as a very dirty coal shed with a deep tan head, lasts ages. Big aromas of licorice, vanilla, dark fruits, coffee, sweet spices, star anise, soy sauce and caramel. Yum! Tasty flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, licorice, dates, walnuts, burnt caramel and a little aniseed. Rich, sweet mouthfeel. Huge alcohol burn. Sweet, malty finish. Warming. Bloody excellent stuff!

Tasted at the big “SeaBass has got to go” tasting courtesy of juiceisloose. Pours deep amber with almost no head to speak of and some modest legging up the side of the glass. The aroma is burnt malts, oak like spices, a modest level of vanilla and then moving into booziness. The taste begins in a great way with molasses and unmistakably rich vanilla as well as moving toward mildly burnt notes, dark roasted malts, black strap molasses and kind of bourbon coated fudge brownie = YUM.

A: The pour is almost black with a smallish tan head. S: Certainly a lot of vanilla notes, as you would expect, but there’s an incredible maple syrup character to it. Tons of bourbon and chocolate, and booze. T: Very sweet, mostly chocolate and vanilla. There’s an undertone of oak flavor that provides a touch of spice. Lots of bourbon and alcohol that is warming on the palate. Again, some maple flavor, but not quite as intense as on the nose. M: The body is full with a low, smooth carbonation. D: As boozy as it is, this is dangerous stuff. A really great flavor and very, very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours all black. Sweet, vanilla dominated, aroma. Notes of caramel, bourbon, chocolate and coffee. Lots of vanilla in taste! Bourbon vanilla notes and also some notes from the fresh vanilla beans used for this brew. The result is a mellowed out version of the original Bourbon County Stout. Still a good beer! Very smooth texture.

Appearance is pitch black, but totally flat. Aroma is very smooth, sweet molasses and bourbon. Bourbon flavor is very saturated through the beer, not just lightly floating on top. the added vanilla is very subtle, like you can’t really taste the vanilla, but you can definitely tell is was smoothing out the rough alcohol notes that would otherwise be there. Thanks to Illinismitty at the Nashville Beer Summit.

Had a taste of this a Rattle n Hum with the Fairfield crew + Dad and Baby Streetsie. The vanilla makes this overly sweet... unnecessary to add vanilla, the bourbon gives off the perfect amount already.

Bottle at Monks Porterhouse. Pours black without any head. Great beer but the vanilla gets a bit excessive.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2011 (Rating #6400)... Bottle… Tampa “Farewell to Sebletitje” TastingThis beer rocks!… Pours pitch black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. This doesn’t smell an awful lot different than traditional Bourbon County Stout to me. Sure, I’m picking up some vanilla, but not much more than what the untreated version offers. Throw pretty much any imperial stout in a toasted or charred bourbon barrel and you’re going to get a vanilla nuance. I don’t know if there weren’t enough vanilla beans added or if the time the beer spent with the vanilla beans was cut too short, but I’m a vanilla fanatic and wanted more of a stand-out vanilla component in this beer, but that’s not really evident here. Ultra full-bodied with a motor oil mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor is very bourbony and here’s that blast of vanilla I was looking for. Also, plenty of sweet mocha, burnt malts and essence of bourbon. No overbearing bourbon or alcohol heat. Carbonaceous, bittersweet, crème brûlée finish. Very, very nice, but I’m deducting a couple points due my disappointment there weren’t more fresh, sticky vanilla beans in the nose. World class imperial stout shared by juiceisloose. Thanks, Justin!

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2012 Bottle split with streets at rattle n hum. Pours a pitch black with no head, no lacing. Weird because the regular and the rare had nice lacing. Aroma is vanilla and alcohol. Mouthfeel is slick with notes of vanilla and alcohol.
