Tasted blind at a horizontal including Vanilla, Rare, Cherry Rye, Bramble Rye, Coffee and an ’09 Bomber. Poured into a snifter at approx 55 degrees. Reviewed from blind tasting notes. A- Pours with essentially no head whatsoever, looks thick and viscous. No carbonation apparent. S- You can smell some vanilla on the nose as well as some dark fruit and caramel. Some bourbon as well. T- Tastes of caramel, bourbon, some cherry and oak as well. Tons of chocolate with a very minimal amount of vanilla. M- This had the thickest, most rich feel of the 5 we tasted. Like an oil slick in your mouth. Very little drying quality, but enough to balance the sweetness from the malt and vanilla. O- This was the 1st in our lineup to taste. The vanilla was certainly not as apparent as we had expected from other vanilla beers (BAVDL and others) so it was a little underwhelming. Our group at first thought this could be the ’09 bomber, but ended up going back and switching it to vanilla once we tasted all 5. The nose and thick/richness were the parts that made it clear this was the vanilla, although it definitely wasn’t there in the taste.

Very good. Slightly syrupy. Really enjoyed this alongside the other BCBS beers.

From a bottle served at Church Key. Vintage 2010. Pours black with a tan head. Vanilla, oak and bourbon, seamlessly integrated in a viscous, chewy pour. Big alcohol finish. WOW!

Black pour, thin tan head. Nose is bourbon, a touch of vanilla, chocolate syrup. Taste is like regular aged bourbon county--lots of mellow bourbon, chocolate syrup, some vanilla. I definitely got the vanilla but if I were told I was drinking aged regular Bourbon County I might not have questioned it. I know some bottles are drinking superbly, but the vanilla beans definitely seemed to have worn off in this one. Still pretty damn incredibly.

I love this beer. Black pour, dark tan head. Sweet, chocolatey with lots of vanilla and just enough bourbon and chocolate to balance. It is excellent.

12/01/2010: Goose Island Vanilla Bourbon County Stout... Aroma: Heyshey syrup and vanilla can be smelled from several feet away; soft bouron ALCOHOL. Appearance: Mahogany color with a quickly dissipating beige head. Flavor: Smooth, creamy, rich vanilla and bourbon; alcohol vents through the nose with a little burn; creme brulee; chocolate; sugary sweetness. Palate: Full-bodied; creamy texture. Overall: DAMN FRAKING GOOD! The best version of BCS to date!

What a rare treat - thanks OmegaX! It poured a typical BCS - thick, oily, barely a head. I could pick up a vanilla scent before bringing the snifter to my face!!! Among vanilla was smooth oak, bourbon and cherries. The taste was full of bourbon-soaked raisins and cherries, chocolate, coffee and a fresh, almost silky vanilla finish. Other than BCS Rare, this is my favorite brew from these guys.

Great brew here. Thanks, Daniel. Nose is big vanilla, chocolate, some light booze, roast, cocoa. Sweet vanilla notes. Flavor is similar. Big chocolatey stout with light alcohol and sweet vanilla. Great.

P: Black with almost no head. S: Vanilla and mollasses, some honey and a hint of soy. T: Vanilla it is still very present, a bit of soy that made a little odd, and it ends with spice and oak. M: Silky with low carbonation, it coats the tounge very well. O: Nice brew, almost no alcohol and found this rather easy to drink, the only thing is that it was a little odd.
