Pour is ruddy opaque brown with a nice dense big bubbled tan head...smellis hot hot hot with alcohol...tons of bourbon and vanilla with some notes of sweet fruits...lots of wood...taste is very interesting flavor profile...metallic and sharp notes at first...rich chewy toasty flavors...nice yeast coating hte tongue...definate grape and cherries...mouthfeel is a little slick...overall very nice, but the sharpness comes back in the finish...deducted palate score as a result.

From 750 with plastic cork from the MJRBC. Pours a deep, dark reddish brown with tan head. Nose of bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, grape and oak. Flavor follows with alcohol in the finish. Palate is lighter then the nose would suggest, but is still smooth. Nice.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 12, 2006
2006 version. Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells of bourbon almost to the point of overwhelming the malt underneath. Tastes boozy with bourbon dominating the palate. Some earthy hops and malt is there but overpowered by the woody bourbon. On the finish, there’s mellow signs of sourness, but these notes seem to clash with the bourbon character where they should compliment it. Rather one dimensional.

Bottle - corked, with a plastic cork, and caged via the Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club. Hardest damn cork I’ve ever had to remove! Pours a deep mahogany. Small clump of froth gathered to one side of the glass. Bourbon, wood, rich malts, toffee and vanilla emanate from the snifter. Taste is absolutely delicious! Lots of sweet malts, brown sugar, toffee, caramel, bourbon, light custard, vanilla, and wood. Near creamy feel on the palate, save the slight carbonation bubbles tickling the tongue. Medium-full overall feel on the palate. Finishes with more bourbon, slight nuttiness, toffee, vanilla ice cream, and sweet malts. Absolutely wonderful! Had I known it’d be this good, I would’ve ordered more!

Mahogany color which turns red when held to a light. Thick chewy head. Sweet molasses/chocolate smell. Full bodied with an ultra smooth mouthfeel. Strong, wee heavy type sweet malt flavor with a pleasing alcohol bite to finish. A very nice beer here.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2007 This beer pours to a dark brown body with a light tan head. The aroma is a light nut with hops and dark roasted malts. The flavor really isn’t nutty. I guess that’s true because this isn’t a brown ale but an ASA. More roasted malts and chocolate. I get caskiness too.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 11, 2005
Dark, brilliant garnet with a thin, quickly diminishing head. Bourbon-barrel aging is evident from the beginning. Vanilla, oak, toasted coconut, caramel, molasses, maple, toasted bread and a small amount of oily nuts. The body is big and thick and the low carbonation is spot on. The flavor profile is compeised of bourbon-barrel treated malt and alcohol. Chewy, sweet, slightly woody and warm, it’s exactly what I expected. Tasty, warm and sweet, it’s a pretty good example of bourbon aged beers. As usual, the bourbon begins to take over and completely dominates. I’m sure many people would love this. Good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Probiere (992) - Iowa, USA - JUL 8, 2005
Heavy notes of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, tobacco, molasses, and caramel. Taste chocolate, toffee, lots of alcohol. Strong balance from the hops but it comes in late towards the end. I would have waited longer to release this, personally. It has loads of aging potential, but at the moment it’s not my cup of tea. I’d like it a little more mellow and integrated.
